Jeezz don't forget how much for the X5M keyfob to just do this hack or mod. I don't mind doing the soldering. Those are the easy part.

The $150 does or does not include the key?

I just look at the link website. I would say $150 pay for everything. I guess they know a place to get X5M keyfob for cheap... even if it is aftermarket.
I would say I probably do this if you have a banged up keyfob that still work. I know alot of us throw there keys anywhere and they will scratch up or maybe crack where you attach key ring... and don't really want to pony up for a new keyfob... replacing just the case for $150 is very resonable. |

My local lock smith was able to cut the physical key portion for like 35 bucks IIRC. And it works. Although they did bend it a bit, I'm guessing from putting it on a clamp so if anyone goes to get it cut, make sure they don't bend it. Had a hell of a time trying to bend it back with a pair of pliers to get it to seat correctly.

I'm shipping mine to him today to have it done. I talked to him a bunch last night, George is a very nice guy, he said he does this for fun and gets the OEM X5M fobs unprogrammed from a BMW locksmith in bulk and that's the reason for the low price. When you buy it from BMW they have it coded
/programmed to your car and you must provide proof of ownership etc, so that's why it's $300+ if you get through BMW. He confirmed he uses hot air/soldering equipment to swap the prom, just like was detailed in another thread. What a great value service though, totally fills a niche we have here for getting the X5M fob to work. I'm very excited. I'll post back here when it comes in as well as put up a thread on 2addicts |

Just got my key back on monday. Communication with George went smoothly and turn around time was 3 days which is really quick. Key works beautifully and I can't believe that my car now has the X5M style key.

Saw he just updated the site to offer 1 day turnaround and overnight UPS shipping. Not sure if that'd be an option, but if you could be without it for a day you might still be able to swing it. Bit more expensive but still super reasonable!

How about the M5 display key fob? I really like this version.

damn, $175 to replace a keyfob (not getting a duplicate) is quite expensive. if i were to get a new (duplicate) keyfob without sacrifacing my oem keyfob, i would consider it, but this is too expensive.
anyone should consider find a service that can clone a keyfob, it would be better so you have a spare |
