Have a play around with your seat height and don't focus too much on your hands and feet when you're out. Keep your arms relaxed (which will help stop back and palm pain) and keep your legs in a straight line in, not pointing out.

Either way your arse should ideally be the only thing that hurts. A bit like prison.
Cheers Rob I'm hoping the back and other ageing parts improve with familiarity- they usually do. Had a proper bike fit a few years ago, so most of the bike settings should be appropriate, although will review after a few hundred kms.

Great weather coming up. Around here there are almost as many cyclists out as cars these days. While families, toddlers in the main road, trailgaters (ah memories), groups (!) and leisure Mamils.

Despite some old man grumbling on here it is great to see. I can only hope people keep up their fitness drive as that alone has a long term chance to save the NHS some serious money.

Anyway, back to work for me today after 5 days off. Pah.

34km today, lungs and legs good. Feet screwed, could hardly stand afterwards

New shoes it is, mine are clearly knackered.

Any recommendations for a decent shoe that takes 2 bolt shimano cleats? Would rather avoid a pedal change for a three bolt system, although expecting upgrade suggestions given this forum's propensity for an upsell!

Shoes: Mavic Comete Pros, a snip at £630 and fully customisable footbed
Pedals: Look Exakt Power meter pedals, a very reasonable £1,350

Keeps your options open for road cleats or current MTB. Why not

58 miles today (93km), 3000 feet of elevation, slow time, working on the tan lines

750ml of High Five zero and 10 jelly babies (only six consumed)

Didn't take enough liquid, tried to pick a loop so I wasn't bang into todays easterly (at least it offered some coolness) but what a beautiful day.

The only downer is that this loop comes with a 9% gradient

Good ride.

I need to get a second bottle cage on my bike before I start going for longer distances in this weather. I'm sticking to around 50km at the moment.

I've seen so many posts recently (not just on here) where people have messed up their hydration strategy or have questions about it, there's a great guide on the British cycling site

https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/kn...ydration-101-0

but even if you're just going for an easy ride at the moment given the weather 500ml per hour is going to be a good guideline

Deepest Dorset

This is the hill in question

https://www.google.com/maps/@50.8772...7i13312!8i6656

There are a couple of areas where its 15%..I can just about turn the pedals seated on a 12-30 cassette, you young 'uns would probably breeze up it.

There are quite a few ways up the hill, a few others not so painful and actually a really nice climb ..if you like that sort of thing.

Just to say I'm loving reading this thread, some good advice and humour.

Can I ask what saddles are you all running? Or would you recommend?

I am using the one that came with my bike (giant branded selle Italia I think) which is comfy enough but is now getting quite worn.

As I understand the ergonomics of cycling, it's all about your "sit bones"! you can even get them measured

As it's such a personal thing, finding the right saddle is more trial and error, but I'd appreciate some suggestions as well.

Stay safe out there

Dorset is a lovely part of the country.

We try and get down there every couple of years with the dogs. Love it around Lulworth Cove.

Probably a bit hilly for me for cycling though! I don't do hills well!
