Thank you, already coded independent ambient brightness, now only thing left is to find out whether my no-line F30 has the necessary wiring to use the white LCI Leds as well after coding + LED module retrofit.

The file includes 3 pieces, basically one door, you'll need to ask for 4, by mistake I took 5.

For the perfect look you can also see if you can get a piece that is 20 inches per door.

I might just get them done and sell them.
Can you send me link please?
Thanks

well i was trying to find out what those strips are.
I think its from a led profile bar, it has a plastic diffuser strip on top of it.
So i ordered a set from aliexpress and tried.
the one i ordered had the aluminium profile included, 5 x 50cm for 12 euro..
You have to cut the strip in half, have to find oud the perfect dimension, so still testing.
i think its the same thing that the guy from ebay does and sells.
Im sure there are better ones available after some testing, but this one will do just fine for me now.

Looks good! The solid pieces I got on eBay are still available for $55. How much were these?

I was interested in ambient lighting for my new to me 2014 F31 and watched the YouTube vid to see what was involved. Next time I got in the car I noticed that the piece is already attached to the door panel, I already have the lighting package! the problem is they're so dim I never even knew they were there. I checked in the setting and they're at full brightness, but barely put out enough light to reflect off the door lever. Any options for juicing them up? Bimmercode?

This is not the lighting package. This goes over the lighting package lights to extend them below the trim so they are more visible. You can turn up the brightness by coding the ambient light to be independently controlled from the instrument cluster brightness.

Thanks, I see that now.

I coded the ambient to be seperate from the interior lights, but that's all it did, it's no brighter than when the interior light wheel was at maximum.

I have seen pics of someone else's result and it seems much brighter after decoupling. Mine are at 100% and can barely see them.

Hi all, I bought the $55 ebay ones for my F30, and recently sold it for an F32. I'll sell someone the 4 strips. They were on the car for about a month. They weren't THAT bright, but I did like the look better than stock, especially on black interior.

I bought these and installed them a week ago on my f30 that already had ambient lights from the factory. Theyre cheap-ish chinese led strips that do actually glow very well, the only problem is how backwards the color scheme is.
All the strips have two connectors that you plug into the existing ambient light plug, but you cant have them all the same color. The rear right lets you choose between red and blue, but the rest have the same color on both plugs. Both left strips only have blue, while the front right only has red. Very strange and idk if it has anything to do with coding? Anyone else have any experience with it?

I'm considering buying a new set from someone else as having asymmetric ambient light is ugly imo, any recommendations?

Ambient Interior Light Mod – Let There Be Light…Strips

Hello Forum Members,

Just did this, so adding my contribution. But it's all been pretty much said before...

Buy It Here:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...VOBJIEZO&psc=1

Youtube Video #1 (thank you Thic F30) on install/look:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2NKvZv5-mM
Youtube Video #2 (thank you Thic F30) on optional coding:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2NKvZv5-mM

I own a pre-LCI 335i. Truth be told, I didn’t even know that I had any ambient lights hidden within the cabin doors until I came upon that YouTube video. The BMW lighting engineers must have completely underestimated (by a factor of 1000) the level of luminescence required to trigger the ambient “cool factor”. The pre-LCI’s ambient lights are just incredibly dim (which is why I had never even noticed that the car had them).

When I saw the YouTube video, I literally ran out to my car, turned on accessory mode and the parking lights, and then had to look (per the video) to verify that there was indeed lighting there. Whadyaknow? That was a complete surprise to me. I then knew immediately what I had to do. And, I am now excited to be a member of the Ambient Light Mod Club.

Some quick thoughts (beyond the opinions of that vlogger):
1. The lighting effect seems consistent from one end of the strip to the other (the various YouTube videos don’t really convey that). I was concerned that lighting along the plastic strip would be uneven, but the look is clean.
2. Because the ambient lights are dim to begin with, these strips can only amplify the light so much. You’ll probably say, “hey, that’s cool.” But, you won’t say, “WOW!”
3. Among the plethora of interior mods you can perform, this one (considering the low cost / easy 10-minute install / visual appeal) provides good value for the impact.
4. In the daytime, these aftermarket strips are pretty unnoticeable. I measured barely 2 millimeters of plastic that shows itself and I doubt that even the most discerning owner would even notice. See pic below of my passenger door with the plastic strip attached. You can see the nighttime effects in the previously mentioned and several other YouTube videos.

Hey, what a simple and elegant upgrade! This enhancement is not only inexpensive but universally lauded by those who have invested in it. And I too now am a fan. Mod On!

So there are two things one need to do, to have LCI ambient light power:

1. LED modules (personally i didn't bother to play with resistor and just bought LCI ones) (new part number)
2. new "LCI" optical fiber conductor (same part number but they are different now)

Only when you change two of these you will have good brightness, changing just one will not do the job. Trust me I tested it couple of weeks ago

In my case (2014 f31):
Optical conductor door front upper right
63319239408
Optical conductor, door front upper left
63319239409
Optical conductor, door rear upper right
63319239410
Optical conductor, door rear upper left
63319239411
new LED module
63319353133 4 pcs.

And you have factory looking ambient lightning, not some Opel like stripes

...oh keep in mind that front footwell light gonna be the same weak light
I ended up just replacing the four LED modules and re-used the optical conductors in the F3x doors. Now the ambient lighting is clearly visible (after it was coded) on an all-black interior.

Did you notice any significant differences between the actual optical conductors with regards to either finish, shape, or anything that would lend itself to a brighter light being emitted from the strip?

I always thought all optical cables were essentially the same; however, maybe I'm wrong.

Great thread! It's amazing how a little red or blue light at night can dazzle the interior.
