BMS Short Throw Shifter (Looking for input)

Anyone have the BMS STS and has any feedback on it?

The 6MT has a 5" throw looking for something that can bring it down to 3" throw.

based on my experience, any german manual transmission with a short throw shifter was just absolutely awful. tried a STS on an e92 328i and hated it. the STS on the golf GTI i tried was even worse.

I agree that the stock throws are too long. I strongly recommend just installing an M perf. shifter or any little metal shifter. you will be shocked at how big of a difference it makes.

I have one i will be installing in the next few weeks hopefully and will post a review.

The comment about sts on German cars being trash is bizarre and crazy wrong. I had one on my e46 m3 that was the best mod I ever did to that car in 7 years and over $10,000 of modding. Bmw shifters are just ok, the shift knobs are nice but that's not the issue. The issue is slip and actual throw length, the sts kits add poly bushings and actual shorter shift levers amongst other changes to make it way notchier and solid feeling. Pretty sure I am gonna like it lol

Are you tracking or competitively auto crossing your car regularly?

If you're doing this just because I would avoid the mod.

Why would you say that, I'm curious?

In a car with a 6MT the gear shifter is thing you interface with the most everyday every time you drive the car aside from the steering wheel and pedals so why would you not want to improve the shift feel and throw distance? On every manual transmission car I've owned a short shifter was easily the most rewarding mod that paid itself off every time I drove the car especially in my previous m3.

I am still convinced that all German STS shifters are positively shit. I have yet to try one that I actually liked.

changing your shifter to a smaller one will make a big difference. yes it wont affect overall throw lengh, but it is a cheap and easy way to make the shifts feel postively notchy and sporty over the rubbery, indifferent feel of a completely stock BMW shifter.

So r u saying that a short shift kit will make it more notchy and better than than the rubbery feel of a stock bmw shifter? Lol! Wouldn't that contradict your argument that short shift kits are trash?

If you are implying changing the shift knob alone will make for notchier shifts that would be completely false.

no. I said that changing the shift knob on it's own helped increase shifter feel and make it more sporty, at least in my experience. we clearly have used different shifter on different cars which is causing contradicting opinions. no need to pull at each others balls here.

Look man I don't wanna pull your balls or have anything to do with your balls whatsoever. It just sounds like you are saying a different shift knob will reduce the sloppy rubbery feel of a bmw shifter which is not true, that can only be done by installing a full short shift kit as the shift knob has nothing to do with rubbery/indifferent shift feel.

If you want to reduce your "throw", you need to reduce the height of the shifter from the pivot point to the shift knob. I don't think UUC advertises an Ultimate Short Shifter-EVO3 for the 340 yet, but they may have it in development. http://store.uucmotorwerks.com/3-ser...2012-c908.aspx

I put one in my 99 540 Sport and it made a marked difference in the "throw" length. the arc remains unchanged. It is also height adjustable. If you include the Double Shear Selector Rod (DSSR), that will remove much of the sloppiness of the OEM shifter assembly.

Doing either or both will amplify the "notchiness" in the shifts, but I've always found that a plus to me over the vague/spongy OEM shifters I've had (kind of like rowing a boat in Jello).
