If you like 19 crimes then you should like Jam Shed. Chocolate block is very good as is any Faustino under number 4 although I rarely drink it over here. For a random alternative try sparkling Shiraz, we have this for special occasions as neither of us drink ‘white’ so it’s an amazing alternative to champagne or Prosecco. I do buy other wines but as a go to all of the above including your 3. Last edited by Broncho; 05-22-2020 at 01:34 PM.. |

Thanks Broncho - Sorry keep editing my list.
For some reason i like the Spanish Viejo Rioja wines the best so far, tried a few random French and Italian wines but don't like them that much. Stopped drinking beer and larger and have switched to Whiskey and wine, cannot say i know much about wine other than i like it or don't I did find some really good Italian wines, but cannot get them in the UK. Was about to order a bottle of Campo Viejo Rioja Gran Reserva (as a lockdown treat, have a case of 6 Campo Viejo Rioja Tempranillo), but would be good to try something new.

Don’t get me wrong I buy plenty of others but find it to be the sweet spot. If you’re a Costco member campo yellow label and 19 crimes can be had for less than £5 a bottle when on offer the same for Amazon, I’ll usually stock up on 10+ cases when it’s on. |

Primativo is nice, it’s on the menu in our local Italian.

Agree with the Campo Viejo & the Primativo.
2 of my faves: McGuigan Malbec - has all the flavour profile of a Malbec but much lighter on the palate Vallegarcia Petit Hipperia Edition Roble - stunning, but at £25+/bottle it should be! |

Thumbs up on the Campo Viejo Rioja and various Malbecs.
This went down quite well. Beaverdale Cab Sav. Most recent is this, but the taste seems to be more berry than grape. Blackberries? Won't be buying any more of it. It was supposed to be Cab Sav also. Four gallons to struggle through... If it doesn't improve in a couple of weeks, it'll have to go.

Generally, whichever Malbec is currently open.

I mostly drink French wine, but occasionally Spanish or Italian. I find most New World wines too heavy.
Not wishing to over-complicate it but you will enjoy wine a lot more if you pair it with the right food (or vice versa). Loads of websites to give you some ideas, or get a good book. For the record my favourite reds are: Cahors Malbec - nice and juicy but much lighter than the Argentinian alternatives. Premier Cru Beaujolais, such as Moulin a Vent - great with lamb, chicken or even firm fish like monkfish. Loire Valley reds, like Saumur or Chinon - generally quite light and good with lean red meat, including Sancerre Rouge - light and summery, good for a barbecue. Cote du Rhone - loads to choose from, the best being Chateauneuf du Pape - strong enough for steak or rich stews. Pretty much anything from Bordeaux, but especially St Emilion. And last but not least a good Languedoc like Fitou, Corbieres or Faugeres - great with duck, sausages or burgers. |

Went wine tasting in South Africa and really like Pinotage red wine. I try to buy Boschendal when I can find it, because that’s one of the places we went and it’s good, but Beyerskloof is nearly as good and more widely available here. Always seems to go down well with people we introduce it to and ends up on their red wine shopping lists.

my other tip is sign gn up to laithwaits wines. I pay for free fast delivery all year and don't drink that much but its also useful for presents.
Main thing is though you don't pay for wine you don't like, they are very good at honouring it as well. |

Yellow Tail Jammy Red Roo is another good cheap bottle, we rather enjoy that one. Torres Sangredetoro isn't bad too. There's a red called Rocco Bay too - bit harder to find but that's good too. Our local merchant has that. We do tend to drink more White than red though. |

French reds for me, though not Bordeaux, don’t really get on with them. I do like a Malbec and also merlot from chile.
French reds I love (top 3 massive favs as nice and light and easy drinking): Beaujolais/Beaujolais Villages Fleurie Brouilly Crozes Hermitage Cotes du Rhône Chateauneuf du Pape |

Love your first 3 selection. I also like Spanish Rioja (El Coto 'Seleccion Vinedis' definitely worth a look)
Outside of that a good Malbec is divine (ideally from Argentina) I was fortunate to visit S Africa last Jan, and can honestly say quality wines ! (both red and white) We bought this Malbec in USA last year and it was amazing! and, it came from......... dare i say it LIDL!!!!!! Unfortunately, i cant find it in UK or Europe!! Not really a fan of American wines, but Australia produces some perfect varieties, together with Chile and Portugal Honest rule of thumb, don't buy wine on the price tag, take a chance, try it,and ultimately enjoy what you like!!! Good luck and happy drinking!!!! Last edited by ALBEE; 05-24-2020 at 12:40 PM.. |
