how are you making your mixture? i recently got my hands on a 5 gal pail of vp racing m1 and mixed 50/50 by volume

Most racers recommend that you mix 50:50 by weight because methanol weighs less than water.

Mix 55 parts methanol, 45 parts water and that will get you close to 50/50 by weight. Or you can bust out a scale. Meth is about 6.6lbs per gal and water is about 8.8lbs per gallon iirc.

But I really dont think it matters which way you do it, the key is to keep mixing it consistently so nothing is changing from what it was tuned on.

There is no reason you can't just do 50:50 by volume and call it good though....I do it by volume.

I use the following to keep things mixed appropriately after first mix:

Solvent/Solute dilution calulation

C1-concentration before dilution
V1-volume before dilution
C2- concentration after dilution
C2- volume after dilution

V2= C1 x V1/C2

Volume solvent to add is V2 - V1

You would also vary your meth:water ratio depending on if you are using it more for fueling, or cooling, etc.
