Rear Tyre Widths
Daft question I'm sure, but my 330D has 225/45/18s front and rear.
The MOT noted that the rears are close to the limit so it's time for a change and as the 225s look quite stretched, is it a straight fit to go to 255/40/18 (as per the door sticker and many websites based on my reg)? TIA Ian |

Depends on the width of the rear wheels.
If you take the wheel off, it'll have stamped on the inside (something like) 18" x 8J (possibly 8.5J). If 8J, then 255 is really a bit too big to be safe. If it's 8.5 then you should be fine |

My 330d has 225/45/18 fronts (8J) and 255/40/18 Rear (8.5J) on standard M Sport alloys.
I will be putting 245/40/18 on the rear when the tyres need replacing though, simply because they’re cheaper and fit the 8.5J even better. |

Although you could still fit a 245/40/18 on the rear safely with an 8J rim. These are generally cheaper than the 255 as well. |
