EGR

Quick question wonder if anyone can help me.

Part of the EGR recall do they take the cooler apart in order to determine if its leaking within?

Thanks

On my F31 320D the EGR cooler was replaced.
Before it went in I asked if the recall requirement was to check first if it was ok and they said no, it was automatically as part of the EGR recall going to replaced on my car.
Dunno if this applies to other models..

Garage List
My 335d was recalled in February, the EGR Cooler was checked and deemed ok.
I am having a problem with my car at the moment, it judders whilst driving at low speed low rpm. I took the car to BMW and they replaced the cooler as suspected this was the reason for the fault ...... it wasn't but I did get a free cooler!

My 335 was recalled earlier in the year and took it in for them to check. I was told it was fine but spoke to the service manager to see how they actually checked it.

He told me that the recall was due to a shoddy batch of valves and said they only check the EGR's serial number to see if it is a defective one. As apparently mine wasn't I was good to go.

Haven't had any symptoms previously or post to check so I'm guessing they must have been correct. Seems dealers are all saying something different though?

My 330d was recalled twice and both times they say it was for inspection. I think they may use some sort of borescope to look for leaks inside but there is very little 'taking apart' required. I suppose that if the modified EGRs were freely available they may just swap them but they are not so they are just checking for leaks.

As I understand the part number of the EGR cooler has been changed reflecting a design change to resolve the problem but the new ones are not freely available. My original 2013 unit failed and was replaced in 2017 before the recall started but they still wanted to inspect the replacement unit twice presumably because it was the same part # as the defective unit.

Just to add to this, my dads ERG valve failed on his 2017 320d, although his was not a recall car, the service managed had a good humm and haww when he seen my dads chassis number and muttered that theres likely to be a recall on a set build to address these. He is ruining about in one of 5x 520d "egr" cars the dealer has.

My 640d went in for EGR recall. They had my car for 7 weeks waiting for parts. They replaced the EGR cooler & inlet manifold.

The whole ordeal nearly made me switch brands entirely until i actually test drove the comparable Audi & Mercedes.
