G20 - Will they make/sell a 340d ?

Hi guys

Does anyone know if BMW are;

1) Making a 340d?

2) If so, selling it in the UK?

Personally I doubt it, due to all the emissions rubbish and falling diesel sales.

I would bet a bollock the falling sales are nothing to do with people caring about our environment, more like caring for their back pockets - i.e. scared of loosing out/depreciation/tax and so on.

I've not checked myself, but my friend said the new C class is not available with 6 cyl derv anymore?

Most reports seem to say an M340d is in development. We won't know for sure until an official announcement from BMW

Considering the 30d is the biggest diesel in both the new x3 and 5 series i wouldnt bet on us getting it. We dont get the m550d.

I hope we do get an M340d, however if it has an M badge in front of it, it's bound to command a high premium

UK doesn't get a 540d so I'd say slim chance for a 340d.

Given that the 335 and 435d are being given away at the same price as the 430d's id say that BMW are going to have an issue.

That said BMW are ripping off people with the 435d as its only an extra turbo and X drive but want 5k and wonder why people wont pay the money.

I'll be keeping my F30 for much longer if they don't make a g20 340d

although I'd probably part x for a fully loaded LCI and keep hold of it for a long time, my current pre-LCI doesn't have many options

I don't think we will see a 40d soon or it will just be a rebaged 35.

The clue on the new diesel 5 series Alpina did it for me. Its available now in the UK with a HP of around 322 ish... My 6 series 40d is 313 so I can't see a standard BMW 540d coming to the UK ina similar HP as the Alpina takes that spot.

I would have expected the Alpina to put out 50-60 hp more... then again look at the rest of Europe the Alpina packs in 388 !

So no 540d and think the same about the 3/4 series.

I would like a new X340d but its looking unlikely for the UK but I still live in hope.

Assume there would be a 335d if no 340d?

No there’s no 35d’s anymore, it will be an M340d, but whether it comes to UK is the question.

New 30d is impressive though, even in the G31 I was surprised how well it pulled! Nearly same torque as 335d so not surprising really.

Having a quick look at how many left it suggests that the market for the 35d 3/4 series is much stronger than for the 5 series in the U.K. Depending on how 35d sales have held up since Dieselgate will ultimately determine whether BMW chooses to sell a 340d in the future in the U.K.

The good news is that even now nearly a 1000 a quarter 335ds are being registered which hopefully shows good public confidence in the engine and it's technology.

Op, it is true there isn’t a 6 cylinder derv C class anymore, best they have is a 250d, found this out a few months ago whist shopping for a new car, there is an E350d though

Time will tell - can't see them dropping the engine. BMW do build the incredibly niche V12 M760Li, and might get to sell 100 in the UK... £35K off one currently, if it appeals!

Some will not be happy with M340 being xdrive only

Good find however, it's now saying the only 6 cylinder engines will be M340i and M340d. Therefore the 330d will be 4 cylinder. Not a surprise really but not heard that before.
And as you say, the M340i is xdrive, that's also not been mentioned before. Last I read it will be sdrive.

I don't believe anything until the actual models are in production AND available in the U.K.!

This

http://www.bmwblog.com/2018/01/23/bm...-g20-3-series/

Says....

The BMW M340i will use a variant of the new B58 3.0 liter turbocharged I6 engine that should make around 360 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque, give or take a bit of either. It will certainly be offered with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and be rear-wheel drive as-standard, with xDrive likely as an option.

Remember it's a US centric article and will likely be using US engine identification.

The way I read it, the US will get both a 540d and 340d.

What is slightly humorous is saying you have 340i with RWD as standard and xdrive as an option, that basically means both are an option unless they dramatically change the configurator.

The new 5 series has xdrives, the current 3 series has, it would be very strange that the new model drops it or does not build on it with new engine levels.

.
The 540d in the US - and 340d to come - isn't the engine we think it is though, according to this extract:

"The 540d xDrive reportedly uses a 3.0-liter inline-six turbo diesel engine, which generates 261 horsepower (195 kilowatts) and 457 pound-feet (620 Newton-meters) of torque. It's actually identical to the engine BMW uses in the 530d for the internation markets, which is especially popular for the sedan in Europe"
