Panoramic sun roof - opens most of the way

Something odd I've noticed is that when I open my sunroof by a quick press of the open button the cover folds all the way back first as per normal then the glass slides back maybe 90% of the way. To get the final stage I've got to press it again to get it to slide the last bit.

When I close it closes normally.

Am I missing something here? Is this normal? It doesn't seem to be normal to me.

Normal.

I have a sunroof in my F30 and it works in the same way. I think it’s to do with wind noise / interference, but could be wrong.

There was a thread on this a while ago and it’s also covered in the car’s manual.

Edit: here is the other thread on the subject http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...hlight=Sunroof

Thanks. I came in from my drive to work and hit up google and youtube and nothing came back apart from resetting it.

I went to the car and looked on idrive and realised it was documented as a "comfort opening" where it's the point that it is least noisy. Suppose this makes sense and they've probably spent tens of thousands to work out at what point is the least noisy inside the vehicle.

Being honest when I went for a motorway drive at the weekend the sunroof was "open" but not completely and I was wondering why it was so quiet inside the vehicle compared to much older cars I'd been in with sunroofs. I remember 15 years or so ago when my dad had them on his cars and it was really noisy on the motorway so he'd always close them.

Out of curiosity I'll have to give it a go opening it all the way to see the difference but it was nice to read that it was
A) as designed.
B) a good reason for it - to keep noise down
and
C) that there is a way of opening the blind AND sunroof at the same time (double pull back to open!)

Fully open is a big difference, requires the rear windows to be slightly opened to prevent heavy buffeting at speed.

I thought the issue was at lower speeds?

I know at low speeds it is okay as I drove around this morning like it fully open and I was below 40mph.
