B58 Vanos Solenoids ... do you really have to drop the motor?

So i have an e92 335 and was just getting up to speed on the b58. From what I've read it sounds great.

However one thing I find alarming is the fact that the vanos solenoids are on the back of the motor and would require the engine be dropped to change. Is that a fact? Are there workarounds that may happen?

I know vanos solenoids do eventually need changing, so dropping a motor for something like that is insane.

Is it that hard to do? Get a motor support, remove the mounts and everything else that's needed, and drop it a few inches until you have access. I don't think it's that bad that you'd need to lift the entire car up and leave it on the ground. But I may be wrong.

No need to drop the motor, actuators are held in by two clips and the solenoids just twist off with a special tool. Some panels in the back will have to removed to gain access though. Actual vanos adjustment units and central bolts will require some more intense work to replace(ex. valve cover, injectors have to be removed). Thank god for special tools.

Someone probably made an incorrect assumption then told the whole world about it on an internet forum.

Probably because the timing chain is at the rear of the B-series engines.

So the general census says it’s smarter and more wise to lease these vehicles so you don’t have to ever worry about these type of costly problems 🙃
