PHEV Replacement
Hey, just was wondering if I could receive any advice. I am looking to pick up a 2017 330e with just under 100,000 miles on the clock and was wondering if anyone else had any high mileage car too as I'm slightly concerned about the price of replacing the high voltage battery and whether it's a worthy purchase or not.

100k miles in 4 years are relatively high mileage, so do check out the health of the EV battery as well as ICE parts(e.g. VCG, OFHG, oil pan, turbo).
The 330e ZF box also is different, namely, TC is replaced by electric motor. You may want to check maintenance record of ZF box, as the high EV torque may wear out AT fluid quicker than TC. |

I'd recommend having the car checked at a BMW specialist.
A new an emerging is a severe judder for the transmission which usually presents at that sort of mileage. 4 have been identified on these forums thus far including my own unfornunately BMW use long life oil so never usually change the transmission fluid unless asked. To check for this get the car warmed up to temperate and then try to accelerate from 1500rpm in 6th gear. I wish I had this knowledge 2 months ago. Good luck! 3-4 years old with that mileage, it’s likely rarely to have used the hv battery that much, so that is the least of your concerns. More like the general wear and tear on other components like any other 100,000 car…
If you can get the insured warranty (extended warranty) it’ll at least give peace of mind for any future expensive problems. However from that I’ve read prior to my own purchase, it’s actually a pretty reliable car with a reliable engine… |
