F36 - Upgrading wheel size question
Hello all, new here but have a question. I've been scouring the internet and can't seem to find an answer. I have a 2017 f36 with xDrive and it's currently on a square setup with stock wheels. For the spring, I'd like to purchase a second set of wheels with better tires on them. I have this issue with wanting to be different and with that, causes problems with getting answers. Would a wheel spec of 18 x 8.5 and tire spec of 255/40/18 and 30 offset fit on my vehicle? Stock m suspension, and stock body panels... I've tried using wheel calculator sites and everything else but I don't really know how much room I have to work with. Any help would be appreciated.

And here is another post with input from the x-drive guys: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1450620 Keep in mind everyone has different goals in terms of fitment so if the recommendation for +38 seems a little too sunken in you could always add spacers but then at that point I would say just make the +30s fit (worst case adjusting camber or tire sizing)

Thanks for the response. I swear I searched these forums and didn't get any results. So those guys are saying no issues with a 35 offset.. Hmmm, the one image, they look the perfect size and perfectly flush, do you think 5mm more would cause any issues? I'm just bummed the wheels I'm looking at don't have an et35 to make it easier to decide.

I came down from 19s to 18s with 255/40 all around. Car handles a lot better and more tire translated to a better overall ride comfort and I'm not sweating hitting potholes (as much) anymore.
I'm stock msport suspension RWD F36. Wheels are 9" wide with ET30. (First 4 pictures) My previous wheels were 19x8.5 ET30 and it was also flush. (Last 2 pictures)

Nice! I think I prefer the 18s on our cars, especially where I am, the roads are rough. No issues though? That's good. I feel a lot more comfortable now making a decision.

https://www.turnermotorsport.com/t-wheel_guide I found it helpful to draw out diagrams like in the article with combinations that are known to work. Pay attention to the front wheel wells and how much the tires poke into and out of them. Exact width and tread width can be found on TireRack on the Spec tab for each tire. My stock 400M wheels are 8.0"x 18" ET34 with 225/45-18 Pirelli Runflats. I used the same wheels and upgraded to 245/40-18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. Another option that I researched that would work is 9.0"x 19" ET29 with 255/35-19 Michelin PS4S. Hope this helps! |
