For the coding solution which disables the clutch safety on start:

I was wondering if it would be possible to add a push switch on the floor, wired in line with the start/top button, that would be activated by contact with the clutch pedal - in other words, add a physical "clutch must be in" safety as a backup to overriding the electronic provision. Thoughts? Downsides would be you'd need to always have the clutch in to turn the engine off (which may elude others operating the vehicle), assuming it's the same wire/signal for stop as start.

Not to beat this dead horse... but as I've got my snow tires on and we're getting the first accumulation of snow, it dawned on me that I've also lost a winter driving aid, being able to slow the car down with the engine. Between the rev matching and the electric steering, BMW has severely diminished the experience for me

a VERY long time ago, young and cashless I had to start my (then) car in gear after the clutch failed.......... I get the clutch start lockout but like so much else, protecting the dumb from themselves spoils things for others

I certainly do, as a fail safe behind the e-cable. I once left my previous GTI on a mild incline and hadn't realised I didn't pull the e brake hard enough. Came out to find it had gently rolled into my ex's car at the bottom of the incline.
Nope. Anyone who had a turbo in the 90s or 00s had a turbo timer, plus I Never put one in gear in the chrome bumper era (60s thru 80s cars). You use the parking brake and leave it in neutral. Always. Amd if on a steep hill turn the wheel so it will use the curb as a stoppie if it rolled.

It wasn’t until well after someone sued McDonald’s for hot coffee being hot, and an RV manufacturer for cruise control not driving the RV when they went in the back that automakers started putting the clutch down start nanny on cars. Want to say mid to late 90s -mid 2000s And doing that’s bad for the crankshaft thrust bearing.

For those who have coded off "clutch-to-start" in order to disable rev-matching can you still start the vehicle with the clutch in (as long as the brake is depressed) and have rev-matching stay off?
