I spoke to an SA at a different service center. They ordered the part and mentioned a few hours of coding. Thinking I'm the first one to have it done there as well. Got an appointment scheduled for Monday morning, will keep everyone updated on how it goes.

In 3 years i've never used the connected drive services. Without having the tech package, i dont even know what I would be missing. $300 gets some bmw gear or maybe something towards m-performance parts.

I set up my appointment at Laurel BMW in Westmont, IL (that's is where I bought my 2013 F30). They have a great service department. I still haven't heard back regarding next steps, but I'm not trying to rush them as the 2G radio will still work until Dec 31st. |

Beyond that, we subscribe for safety reasons - SOS button, automatic notification to emergency services in the event of a crash, stolen car recovery, etc. Well worth it and one of the reasons we went with this car and selected the appropriate options. Side note: Anyone have any issues with thread notifications? I have this thread (among others) subscribed, yet I haven't received any email notifications in weeks. Not sure who or where to report the issue. Last edited by EnerJi; 10-15-2016 at 04:02 PM.. Reason: Clicked submit too quickly |

My 2013 328XI is still in Memphis at Roadshow BMW getting the retrofit. Mine is the first one they had encountered as well.
Actually, thanks to Bimmerpost I knew about it before they did and asked them about it when I dropped it off for my last free oil change and end of warranty checks. Just so happened they received an email about this procedure two days after I asked them about it. They have currently had my car for a week. Of course it wasn't just the retrofit but several things they had to wait a few days for parts on. |

I'm wondering if this retrofit will allow us CIC owners to be able to use the car unlock feature on newest app.

Hi, New here, mine is in getting the retrofit. They said it's the first one they are doing so it might take a little longer. It's supposed to be ready tomorrow. Sounds like there is a checklist of things that need to get done per my SA.

Let us know if you lose codings, etc. and anything your SA can share about the new unit! I'm assuming it's a new LTE unit, but anything is possible.

It appears that my 2014 328d also falls under this recall, but my services are in effect until 2024. So does that mean that I will lose my services by the end of the year, or will I not have to worry about this until 2024?

Your service (subscription-wise) is good until 2024. If you fall under the recall, your car's cellular technology will stop working at the end of this year (but your subscription will still be active). If you want to keep using it, you will need the retrofit.

Im still not sure what i am missing if i dont retrofit, being that I dont have tech package...besides the crash notifications and oh crap button. Anything else I would loose? It wasnt something that drew me to the car at all, so i guess i wont miss anything.

Well this super sucks. Dropped my car off yesterday morning for service and this retrofit. Just texted SA to ask how it was going and reply was they are having issues because I have aftermarket amps. Saying they need the factory amp...
"We can not program the car with the aftermarket amp installed. We would also need time from you to do this.. about $195.00 to start." WTF?

I just got the car back today. Everything is running fine, BMW Online loads faster, maps are rerouted quicker, traffic info comes up sooner, etc. I believe it is 4G that the combox is updated to.
The SA did mentioned the programming failed the first time and an emergency call couldn't be made, perhaps due to other coding I had done to the car, so they completely programmed the car, hence lost all the coding I had done but they were able to successfully finish the upgrade. |

They apparently put the wrong combox in and realized there are different combos for different for different options. It will be ready either tomorrow or Thursday. The upgrade is apparently a combox + software install. |

Anyone have an idea why the factory amp would have to be present?

Just an educated guess here: If all the factory pieces aren't in place, it may be as simple as the upgrade process may not be able to complete because the car thinks parts are missing. The upgrade may be able to be "hacked" to allow it by one of the more clever coders here, but as far as the dealership is concerned, the time they're being paid to do this is set in stone. There is no real motivation to try and figure out a way around something that the customer did. The money they're asking for is basically "we'll work around it, but on your dime".
