Second instalment-335i. Seems the heavier engine and increased power output (compared to n20/26) is taking a toll on front suspension, the increased volume of air cracks charge pipes easier and the transmission is also suffering. Fit and finish though is noticably better than the 328i. Also no thermostat issues reported or engine self destruct. [/URL]

My last car, which was a 2016 F31 it had several check engine lights, the dealer could never find anything and most of the time it would rectify itself. I put 50k Kms on it and it never left me stranded. The weird thing is that the check engine light would only come on during a long (+2,000 kms) road trip.
The other thing that sporadically would not work reliably was the blind spot monitor on the right side, I never took it to get fixed. Turning the system off was my solution. I liked the F31well enough, it was a lease, and I could not think of another car that suited my needs better. I picked up 2018 F31 July 6th at the BMW Welt, by July 10th with around 1,500 kms on the car, I had a check engine light. I took the car to a dealership in Stuttgart, they read the fault; arbeitet : Einmaliger Fehler Ladedrucksensor vorhanden to English -> works: One-time fault boost pressure sensor available They were unable to find any issues, reset everything and it worked fine for 4 hours and the light has been on consistently since. On the 13th I enjoyed a Drivetrain Malfunction, restarted the car and it went away and has come back on a couple of times, but has gone away on restart. This is my 4th BMW and I have a feeling that it will be the last new BMW. I am not trying to be dramatic, it is just when I total up the cost of the car, the driving dynamics as well as the inconvenience of ownership it just does not add up for me. The other factor is that while I understand that BMW are meeting the demands of the market, which seems to be larger and more luxurious cars, not things of interest to me. I would buy a 140i M Sport in a second, unfortunately their North American offerings are not appealing to me. |

Thank you Palantir for your hard work collecting this data and producing these spreadsheets. This is a useful tool for monitoring potential problems on my car and for other members of this forum.

64,XXX miles. Had an oil filter gasket housing leak rectified and left tail lamp wiring harness replaced.
My steering rack pops every single time I am nowhere near a BMW repair place, but goes completely silent once I get there to show them what it's doing.

My pleasure. Hope other members chime in and use the format above so the added information can expand the current spreadsheet. If key data such as year, model, miles is not present the rest cannot be used to build a better picture.

Same here - 2012 328i, 78.5k miles and just standard maintenance (oil, filters, brake pads, spark plugs and tires). This car has been rock solid!

CPO 2015 428i 30,000 miles at purchase.
Under factory warranty until December of this year. I had a failed thermostat 3 weeks ago at about 35,000 miles. Hopefully this is my only issue for some time. I plan to get coilovers, FMIC, and charge pipe here in the next 12 months |

Light or message on dash, at all? Reason I asked was that I saw a couple codes from BimmerLink yesterday relating to oil pressure. Cleared and will see if they return. No lights or messages whatsoever on the dash. |

Unfortunately mine had a leak. My whole belly pan was soaking with oil. I'm glad I was able to catch it and bring it up to my dealership. I've read on other threads that the oil pan gasket and oil filter housing gasket tend to go out due to time on these cars, not necessarily due to mileage.

I believe that oil gaskets are failing earlier now because of increased oil temps due to turbocharging. If so, engines with lower miles would tend not to need gaskets as often, unless they experience higher oil temps more often. |

'13 328i M Sport, 78k miles. Bought it with 58k on it. Rock solid for the most part.
Fuel pump went out last week. BMW issued extended warranty 3 weeks ago! Lucky. Assuming common problem among others occurring prematurely? First BMW since driving my parents '86 733i in high school. Current awesomness is the best car I have ever owned! Plan on holding on well into 6 figure miles and beyond. |
