Excellent and thanks for the heads up.

Paying 150.00 to unlock the DME on top of the 500plus you pay for the BM3,why the heck cant they just include it in the price? Jeez!! I have a feeling that with the MHD ,if they have even more success with this method watch BM3 do the same.
I would only think that after a short time the MHD will have the same capabilities as the BM3

.But 150.00 to unlock the DME Who has heard of the term price gouge!!!! BM3 how about making a cable to do this also huh?

Are all of these cables they use for the flashes essentially the same? Eg.) if I've bought the bimmergeeks one, will it work with the hextune, gintani, mhd, bm3 (eventually) etc?

The cables are inpa/kcan/dcan cables, you can find a bunch of them on ebay. The FTDI usb/serial is where most of the money is, if it's legit or not. The Bimmergeek Pro cables are around 45 + shipping$

Lots of issues with ebay - Amazon cables as they come from random suppliers and quality. We recommend only the bimmer geeks cable, which also happen to be 2x faster for flashing than all other cables.

I've genuinely wondered every time the claim about faster speeds is made, but what makes those cables allow for faster transfer speeds?

Depends on the cable. For a cable like this that maps an OBD bus to a USB bus, circuitry is invariably involved. Higher speed would be achieved by using low latency semiconductors in said circuitry.

Most likely an unneeded wait time or bug in the original cable. Bimmergeeks modified the firmware to achieve higher speeds on CAN (older KLine cars till 2008 are not affected so it's really the firmware).

They modified it using a larger 5v 7805 regulator for more power, and replaced the usb/serial chip with an actual FTDI version. This is interfaced from the Android device to the FTDI over serial, which in turns communicates to the onboard microprocessor, and then talks CAN to the automotive DME.

All in all, its good competition for the F platform and N55. I love JB4 but nothing can beat a flash tune.
BMS is already working on free unlocked JB4 back end flash maps to be loaded exclusively with the MHD flasher software for those who want to keep all the JB4 features and functions with the extra benefits that flash tuning can provide. I'll make a new thread when the F30 maps are closer to release. They are working on the S55 maps first since they are more complex and the logic will trickle down to the N55 and N20 models.

Hey mike, just wondering what type of additional benefits can one expect from the bef with jb4 (n55 pwg catless dp 93octane)?

Smoother? More power? More torque? More burble? No cel for dp?

Or will these bef tunes for the jb4 only be of any use to the people with access to e85?
