Did I buy a tuned car without knowing it?
I checked online and it was written that an f30 2017 340i is supposed to have 320hp and 330 lb-ft torque.
But when sports display turns on, it shows 400hp and 400lb-ft torque? Is this normal or is there something about my car that I don't know about? |

MPPSK (factory) updates the digital gauges to 400. Prob standard on yours since it's over 300hp. The other way to find out is to let her rip on an open road and see what max you get . It'll only get to 320 but you can go see.

I don’t think they custom make every gauge. The speedometer shows faster than you can actually go. It doesn’t mean anything. I have a 430 4 banger. Something like 248 hp. Sport display shows 320 hp.

Yah the gauge doesn't mean anything. But, you could see if you have the factory MPPSK.
Check your exhaust, it would have the lettering. Also in the engine bay somewhere they would stick this badge on. https://www.ebay.com/itm/26356219601...0aAivVEALw_wcB |

I've been tuned too long to remember what the OEM default was on those gauges. 400 is properly stock. Just because you speedo goes to 260 doesn't mean you can get there.
If floor it, where does the needles stop on those? That's the quickest/easiest check. Those sport gauges are "kind of accurate". The DME runs based on torque targets in the mapping (not boost). What you see on the gauge will be "about" what torque it thinks it should be producing based on air flow, boost, temperatures, etc. Others have said its close to their dyno results, I cannot confirm or deny. Use it more has a "fun thing" than a "real thing". |

You guys are totally missing the point of his question.
He doesn't care about the gauge limit, just that it's above stock. Yes OP, this is indicative the car has either MPPSK or aftermarket flash tune |

Normally when you get the MPPSK installed they put a sticker under the hood. This is intended to alert SA that you have a tune so he/she won't wipe it out with a software update. If it is there, you would know that someone paid to have it installed, but if it is missing, you are no closer to a answer to your question.

So you're saying the stock tune display would have ended at like 350 or something?

My gauges changed when I added the mppsk. I will have to check what it is now, but I can confirm the top end changed and where the values point to during WOT. Again whether real or not, the values prior to adding the mppsk where spot on to what BMW "says" HP and TQ are in stock. When I added the mppsk the WOT values also changed to the new reported values. So at least that is my experience.

I have a 340i X since new. It’s never been tuned. The sports display is identical to yours, with max power 400hp and max torque 400 lb-ft. It’s the factory setting.

There are a couple out in the wild... Here is one I know for sure has the MPPSK tune without the exhaust.

An aftermarket tune would not change the sport displays. The change is the result of the factory MPPK tune
