zf gearbox service

Hi people, I have a 435d on 97000 miles that has never had a gearbox service.

Does anyone have any experience getting this done in a manchester based bmw specialist?

I would prefer getting a recommendation rather than someone does it for the first time on my car.

Thanks

I know ML Performance / Awesome GTI are good. Not sure if they do/don’t do the ZF service though. Maybe worth a call to them.

I would recommend DRW Performance over in Kirkby.

Only 30min from Manchester.

ADC are your specialists in Manchester & highly recommended/well thought of:

Then I'd recommend Grant and his lads here in Preston at Automatic Transmissions, Preston:

Any garage can do it as you get extremely easy to follow instructions in the ZF service kit.

Audi, VW, Jaguar/Land Rover/Range Rover, Jeep/Chrysler, Rolls Royce, Bentley, etc all use the same gearbox and it's exactly the same process.

If it's not been done in 97,000 miles, I would also recommend resetting the gearbox adaptations after the service is done. The fresh, thinner oil will affect the clutch fill times. Its standard practice on JLR cars with the 8HP, but for some reason BMW don't specify it, but it helps get the best possible shift.

Once adaptations are cleared, it will take roughly a tank of gas to relearn. You won't get any misshifts or clunkiness during that time though, or you shouldn't at least providing all the mechatronics and seals are still in good order.

This is interesting, I didn’t know this, how do you do it - is it possible via BimmerCode?

I would also get the front and rear diff oil + transfer case oil done at the same time (or just rear diff if you’re s drive)

I had mine done at almost exactly the same mileage as you.

I used BM Connected in Essex (2.5 hours drive from me - but their reviews speak for themselves)

https://bmconnected.co.uk/

I had ZF8, transfer box & rear diff done at 53k

I don't think it can. You need ISTA D unfortunately, which is well worth having in your tool kit anyway for the heavier duty stuff the Bimmer apps can't do.

The "smooth running" check is also well worth doing as it can give you an early heads up to impending injector failure.

Heh, had mine done by them too, bit closer to me though.

Judging by the massive stack of old oil pans waiting to go wherever they go they do a fair few of them.
