Heated steering wheel

Hi, sorry if this has been done to death, however I have an F30 shadow edition and would like to know if there is a way to determine if my car has the heated sw module fitted. I don't have lane assist etc but was curious if everything is there, just not coded on? Tia

If heated then there'll be a button on the left of the steering column.

No. The Lane Assist wheel has a "wobbler" in it, and these come with the heating element.
So the wheel has both options or none.
My car had Lane Assist (that I've never used!) So I was able to fit a switch and code the heater in....which I have used often!

I think his question more aligns to, if he buys a heated steering wheel off say eBay would it work. Of course a none heated wheel won't have the wobbler hardware or heating element but if he bought one problem solved. This is more to do with if the cars hardware supports it or not.

I suggest you remove your airbag (disconnect battery first btw) and have a look at the steering column to see if there's a connection behind what i've circled with red. If there are pins then that's a good start.

You are likely to need additional hardware including the bottom steering trim where the heated wheel button is located and some coding.

Check this out too, might have everything in it you're looking for.

I read it the other way from "I have an F30 shadow edition and would like to know if there is a way to determine if my car has the heated sw module fitted"

As it doesnt have lane assist either the wheel wont be heated or have any of the other items required for it to be so.

The thread SR-25 has linked provides a lot of good info but its more than just the switch and some coding.

You will need the following :

Heated wheel *
Heated wheel module *
Heated wheel switch
Lower cowl
Indicator/wiper switch *

The items marked with a * will set you back @£1k even sourcing stuff second hand.

You may also require wiring mods if the wiring in your car doesnt exist.

And then some coding too

Dont want to hijack this thread but I have no Lane Assist but I do have a heated wheel, do you know if this means I can add Lane Assist with a button and coding, I have Bimmercode.

I believe you need the camera as well.
The link above has some comments about it that are above my pay grade.

Many thanks, I'm reading the info, coding looks a bit technical. 😀

Do you have speed limit recognition ?
This uses kafas 2 camera which is also required for lane assist.
Lane assist can be added without the enabling button on the dash with coding.

I dont think so, ive never seen the symbols pop up on the dash. Im looking for a picture of a car with the camer built in to compare, theres no mention of it in the VIN check so probably not.
