Brake error 2017 1 series

Hi all,

Need some advice - I’ve got a 2017 1 series, I was driving about 38, 39 mph and a donut decided to stop his car in the middle of the dual carriageway without his hazard I broke sharply and 1 error came on 10 mins later - which is d is brake system drive moderately and I need to change my brake pads anyway

It says drive moderately what does that mean ?

Can anyone help ?

Thanks

🙏

Drive moderately obviously means having worn brakes is putting others at risk, I'd get pads done asap.
There is a wear sensors on pads, and when pads have low life left it gives such an error. Your unpleasant experience on a motorway is just a coincidence.

As said above; you need new pads ASAP (don't fit cheap, crappy ones either)

But get your brakes checked out throughly too; it doesn't make sense to me to put new pads onto old discs and vice versa - this is one place you want an eve wear pattern really and not to skimp on

You can put any pads that fit your budget, if brake discs were replaced some 10ish k miles away it is ok, pads will bed in eventually, might be some squeaky noise for a day.
Looking at an age of your car there is a chance you still have an original brake discs, in this case it would be a good idea to replace those too.
fitting new brake discs/ pads is a good DIY project, plenty of vids on youtube how to, saves money

Max 2 sets of pads to 1 set of discs is a good measure.

My last F31 340i (big blue brakes) were still on original discs & pads at 60K miles with plenty of pad left, but there again I don't use brakes that much.
