Job done as far as I'm concerned, with a question mark over pricing, which is something you could say for most JLR products.

I love the interior dash desk and the option for walkthrough vs centre console vs seat!

I think it's a very clever and appealing design - JLR has really thought this through well.

A pity there isn't a gutsy 6-cyl diesel in the range but with the 2.0L diesel units pumping out 199g/km CO2 it's not surprising. I looked up the CO2 for our 2.0D KIA Sorento : 145g for the manual; 161g for the auto. OK, the off-road capabilities will be quite different, but the weights will probably be similar. Looks like the new Defender is a bit of a dirty beast.

After testing the latest discovery, MRT have been waiting for info on this for a while. However, as it stands, I don't think our MR team will be rushing out to replace our current two 110 work horses. Would be interesting to see what JLR do for commercial customers.

Interesting point. Caused me to look up my Disco SDV6, which turned out to be 198g/km. Thought that made the 2.0 Defender look bad at 199, but then checked the Discovery 2.0 SD4 and that is 194g/km.

Looks like the bigger engine carries very little mpg/emissions penalty over the 4 cylinder - probably due to the four working pretty hard to shift 2.5 tonnes.

NB. Looks like the Sorrento is about 500kg lighter than the LRs.

I just realised why there is no six cylinder diesel yet on the Defender.

The SDV6 used in the Range Rovers and Discovery is Ford-sourced with supply ending next year (iirc).

The new Ingenium in line six is coming on stream - but they seem to have focussed resources on the petrol mild hybrid first. The diesel is expected in 2020/2021, I think.

I guess it makes no sense to engineer the Defender for a V6 that will end production soon, hence fours and the petrol I6 for now.

I had a quick look for the weight of the Defender but didn't find it. 500kg is obviously quite a difference.

The 2L D is going to be working hard to shift 2.5tonnes.

I think I heard on one of the videos that the 110 is similar in weight to the Disco. 2.5 is a bit of rounding from me, but probably about right for a high spec one. Apparently even the old 110 was about 2.1 - which surprised me!
