Got into an accident today morning where this guy made an illegal left turn from the right lane. I wasn?t able to avoid him and wrecked the right side of my car.

My insurance company told me to select a body shop to have the vehicle repaired. My question is how does warranty work once a body shop fixes a vehicle? Is the BMW OEM warranty still valid if OEM parts are used for the repair?

The global imports bmw collision shop near me didnt have good reviews so decided to go with a collision shop near me that works on Tesla’s, European and exotic cars.

OUCH! I hate that for you...luckily, it wasn't your fault and most importantly, no one was hurt (I presume). It will all be back to new in no time!

Yeah no one was hurt. I developed some neck and back pain later in the day so will go to a chiropractor to get checked out.

Just curious on how the factory warranty works after the damage has been repaired.

Global Imports sucks. We bought 2 cars from them, and they still treat us like shit. I take my business to United BMW or BMW of Gwinnett Place. I believe BMW of Gwinnett Place has an auto body shop. Where was your accident btw?

As for your warranty, I assume it will remain the same. We got into a wreck after 2 years of owning our old 325i. After getting everything fixed, we still had our warranties.

It was in Roswell, right by the Roswell mill.

Oh ok. I would honestly just take it Global Imports if that's where you got your car from. It's easier to be on their ass if they didn't do a good job.

Ah, good to know. I didn?t think of BMW of Gwinnett, I guess since it?s far from me.

Bought from global imports and didn?t have the best experience while buying either but didn?t hold it against them since I got what I wanted in the car.

Just hope it gets fixed to original condition but I know that after a wreck a car will never be the same (let?s hope I?m wrong )

Too late, already had the car towed to ECR. Always see fancy high end cars getting repaired there so I hope they do a good job on mine as well.

Just concerned about any defect, mechanical or recall. Just trying to make sure I don?t run into any issues in the future.

I highly doubt it. But you should ask your service advisor just in case. I would get your car completely inspected at both Global Imports and UNITED BMW/BMW of Gwinnett Place. Ask them to test drive your car to make sure everything is in check. That way, if they find something wrong, you can inform your insurance company, and someone will pay to get your car fixed.

Good point. I will do that once I get the repaired car back. For now dealing with insurance and the wait to get the car.

I think I will have any future repairs done at a dealership because many independent shops just can't deal with the electronics on newer cars.

I used a very well regarded local shop to repair my 2014 435i after I hit an alligator (piece of truck tire tread) on the highway and tore up the front and rear bumpers.

After I picked up the car, I had lots of issues with the PDC sensors activating when there was nothing in the way. It make the PDC system worthless, as well as driving me nuts when the warning tone went off at full volume every time I put the car in reverse.

After several failed attempts to fix it, they finally sent me to the dealership and said they would pay to get the issue resolved. Although I've really liked the independent shop in the past, I'm just going straight to the dealership for any future bodywork.

From what I have read, most dealerships don?t own have their own collision shops. They sub contract to shops that are certified in repairs of their car makes. That may not be the case 100% of the time though.

Well, you could always go back to the dealership and be like "hey, I gave you my car to repair. Whatever you did after that is not my issue. The deal is that you would get my car fixed, and you need to make sure that the deal is satisfied".

My local dealership has its own in-house body shop. They also carry MB, Cadillac and Subaru, and their techs don't work on a car if they aren't factory certified on that brand.

My problem was with the local indy shop, not the dealer. By the time they finally gave up and paid the dealer to deal with the PDC issue, I'd already made several trips back.

If I'd gone to the dealer in the first place, I could have saved hassle of dealing with the other guys. The dealer treats me like royalty because I live in a small community and they view me as someone who influences other potential customers, so there's no need to "be like" anything but pleasant.

Just curious on how the factory warranty works after the damage has been repaired.
Go to a real doctor orthopedic surgeon preferably. #1 they actually know real medicine #2 if you need to go after the person that will hold up better in court.

Regarding warranty the factory warranty will not be impacted and the body shop should provide you a separate warranty on their work.

^^ Good advice. Unfortunately sometimes it can take weeks or months to see a specialist. Last time I saw a orthopedist they were booked 6 weeks out.

You'll usually need to see your primary care physician to obtain a referral to the orthopedist. If the PCP knows you were in a motor vehicle collision (it was not an accident!) they get you in to see an ortho if necessary.

BMW has very tight specs for the sensors that have specific requirements for the bumpers, paint and bondo - especially within 4" of ANY sensor.

Doubt the Indy shops are aware of this.

In almost all cases, you need a new bumper as per BMW.

Unfortunately, most appraisers are also unaware of this and want the old bumper repaired cheaply - or a non-OEM Bumper purchased.

You can use an Indy Shop. But get the Bumper(s) replaced with OEM Parts.
