Winter Wheels Tire Pressure?
Hi everyone,
I have a set of OEM 415 wheels (225-45-R18) with winters on them for my 440xi Gran Coupe. The tire pressure guide on the car says the fronts should be 33psi and rears 38 psi - (staggered setup). Just had my winters put on today and noticed that the shop inflated both front and rear to 38 psi. Is this right? I'm a newbie to the winter tire change game, and staggered vs. non-staggered setup. Should the fronts be 33 psi (as indicated on the panel sitcker)? But the psi they indicate there is for a different set of wheels/tires. Or am I ok with 38 psi all around? |

Hmmm
I just called two different bimmer dealerships in the Toronto area to see what they said. 1) 33psi all around for a square setup. 2) 38 psi all around for a square setup b/c the air in the winter thins out. what gives? |

If you want to go with whatever the psi as found on your door jamb or gas door indication, then it is fine. For some, including me, I go with whatever gives me a better overall ride and handling, that would be 34 square setup.

Correct pressure for any factory approved tyre combination can be found in (surprise!) an owner’s manual. Winter tyres are marked as M+S there.

I also over inflate winter tires when I put it on like the shop also because as it gets colder the psi in the tire will drop. Also with a little over inflation it will protect the rim if you run over a winter sized pot hole. when the temps drop you will most likely only be a few psi over inflated.
