Brake Pads for Non M Sport Brakes
Morning all,
Looking at replacing my rear brake pads in the next month or 2, want to make sure I get the correct ones, are these the correct ones: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EBC-YELLOW...8AAOSwdpxUVO~Y Any suggestions on best/cheapest place to purchase? Thanks, Simon |

Having witnessed a set of EBC Yellowstuff crumbling into bits a little fast road use where big chunks of pad come off with each press of the pedal, I would never use them on any car
Not my pic, plenty of others on google image search though Have been quite happy with Ferodo DS2500 for both road and light track duties in other cars, and good levels of dust too. |

Yes they faded, but they retained their structural integrity.

You could have a chat with Roy at CA Automotive - very helpful and may be able to advise alternatives matched to your needs.

If the car isn't being used on track I'd probably just use Pagid / Brembo stock replacement pads to be honest. Pagid's brake book will help you be sure you get the right pads.
http://www.brakebook.com/bb/pagid/en...onSearch.xhtml Be careful if going with Ferrodo DS2500's. They are not approved to ECE R90 ("Reg 90") and as such are marketed as track day pads, not to be used on public roads in applications where the car was built after 1999. I know it's a long shot, but if you suffered a total loss and an assessor picked up on the pads not being road legal you'd be on to plums getting any pay out. All depends on your attitude to risk. |

Both Pagid and Brembo are OEM quality as are ATE.
Don't think Pagid have a fast road application pad available for the F3X yet, they do an RS4-2-1 pad for the E90 and older generation BMW's. |

Brembo pads are only £34.99 from Eurocarparts, they've got a 30% code at the minute. OEM pads are ~£90 |

Brembo will be absolutely fine for general road use. Changing pads us an easy DIY job.

Am I right in thinking I'll need: - Set of brake pads - 1 x wear sensor (or is there one for each wheel). Is this OK? - Hydraulic jack - Wheel bolt wrench - Alan key tool (to remove caliper) Do I also need: - Anti squeak compound? - Synthetic break grease (to lubricate bushing screws)? This is the video I've seen: |

You may not need a new wear sensor - depends if the current one had been worn if the pads are particularly low.
Anti-squeal can make a useful difference. I'd use a torque wrench to torque the bolts correctly when refitting. You can use copper grease on the nibs and carriers for the pads and the caliper sliders, but personally I wouldn't grease any bolts. Irrespective of fixed or floating, a piston retractor makes the job easier.

I can borrow a mate's torque wrench, that's not a problem. Do you mean use copper grease on the back of the pads instead of specific anti squeak compound? Assume it does the same job? When you say piston retractor, I assume that's the bit of kit which pushes the piston back in to the caliper? Can this not be done by hand? |

Before I go ahead and buy the brake pads, can someone confirm which of these I should be going for, on the Eurocarparts website, there are 2 options, Rear and Rear Axle?

Si, those photos / shots don't seem to display when I try to open them. If in doubt, call the supplier to be sure.

Looks like the part number I need is 34216873093 (according to the BMW eBay parts store) Confusingly, that part number doesn't correspond to either of the links? |

Linky? Google doesnt throw anything to me. Being a regular on Pistonheads, MLR and plenty of other car forums - the EBC are universally disliked. Your mileage may vary of course but I can only speak of my personal experience. I'd not touch EBC with someone else's 10ft bargepole
