Let's talk 1/4 mile, launch, time, more!

Hi guys,

so i though it would be nice to have a topic and talking about 1/4 mile! How do you guys launch, what car and mods, time slip..

For me, i'm wondering how to launch properly the car to get a good 0-60..
I have a 435I 2014 convertible with heavy wheel (Vossen cv4) RWD Automatic with FBO :

CTS intercooler
BMS Intake
ER Chargepipe
ER Catted downpipe
Full borla ATAK catback
JB4 + EWG connector
Running 94 octane on map 5! Will do a custom map 6 soon!

I've tried the Launch control and can't even have a little grip so car is spinning like hell...

What do you guys suggest? Brake boost only? 2000 rpm? less or more?
Starting from 1st or 2nd gear?

At what RPM do you suggest to shift?

Waiting for your experience and news!!

Thanks!!

We have similar setups, i'm in a 355xi however. I've only been to the strip once, I started in 1st gear, sport+ and break boosted to about 2-2.25k - then I was running on stock 18's and all season run flats (less mods than i currently have listed). I was high 12's on average. I did some runs with shifting at redline and some at 6.25k-6.5k going into 3rd+ and did not notice much difference. I boosted up to 2.5k once and all tires spun and I hit a bad time, i think 13.3 seconds on that one. I don't have jb4 installed, but one thing I think you can do is set boost @ each gear which could help you out with launch in 1st and 2nd with low psi.

I had some issues with delays after shifting in higher gears which i'm still trying to work out so it should have been faster.

[EDIT]
After adding the new wheels/tires (Michelin PS4S) i've had no tire spin issues and dropped about 3/10 a second off runs

Not quite what you asked but I have an essentially stock 340i xDrive 8AT with the staggered 400M on Continental ContiProContact all season RFT tires. Only mod is a midpipe but I doubt there is anything that will improve other than possible a little weight savings lol.

Last weekend during Bimmerfest East 2017 I consistently ran between 12.89 to 12.96 using sport+ mode and launch control. Pretty impressed but I can't wait to get an intake and JB4 to see better numbers. New wheels can help too but I still need to stick with all seasons.

I have the exact 340i you are wondering about. Currently my odometer is 700km... I just need to be patient with the car for another 2300km.

How do you use launch control ?

I have a 340i with MPPSK and I'm trying to figure out how to launch the car I tried putting it in sport+ holding the break and rev to 2k and let go but it takes off slow for the first second then it goes hard, is there anyway to get the boost right off the bat ?

I just do what you mentioned. Sport + mode with shifter in sport mode. Pressing both the brake and accelerator until the checkered flag comes up in the instrument cluster. I wish the launch rpm was set higher for xDrive models.

Yeah no matter what kind of launch I do with 340i xdrive mppsk and dinan tune I always get that initial turbo lag. If it would pull from 0 that would be fantastic lol. Also, never get ANY tire spin.

I ran my 14 435i xdrive 8A at the track couple weeks ago and my best time was 12.6 @ 110 mph. Using the cars launch control, 1st gear spun a little. Mods are JB4 map 2 (91 oct) dp cp intake.

My PB is a 12.100 @ 113 mph with an F30 335d xdrive with nothing more than an ecu tune. 385 bhp.

My average times are 12.1x @ 113-115 mph.

Average 1/8 mile time is 7.7-7.8 @ 90 mph.

0-60ft is typically high 1.7s.

0-60 on vbox is 3.9x (PB 3.84)

LOL I ran those times in my modded 95 E36 332i(had an M3 3.2l). You need to check you rear tire pressure also. You need to lower them 20psi or lower if you want a proper launch as well. in addition the front tires need at least 38psi. This is on a dragstrip.

Anyone figure out the trick to get a decent 60ft time on an automatic xDrive car? I have been to the track twice now in my Dinan S1 340i xDrive and am really disappointed with my ability to get a decent (1.8) 60ft! I have tried a couple different techniques (sport mode while holding the brake and about 1/2 throttle, Launch Control) and still struggle with getting decent 60fts. Anyone have any advice?

I've found that if you brake boost or hold launch control too long before letting the off the brake your launch is going to suffer.

You wan't the boost to be building as you let go of the brake..when you sit there and hold it too long everything heats up and is when you really feel the turbo lag

If you are trapping 113 there is no reason you should be in the mid 13's.
