N20 Valve Cover Replacement Nightmare

Hey guys just did my valve cover and all the gaskets yesterday. Everything came off and went on smoothly no problems. Gaskets were pre installed and lubed. After everything was said and done, I cranked it up and it started rough idling and popping from a misfire.

I feel fucking defeated. What’s my next steps? Do I get a smoke tester and compression tester and start down the list of where it’s leaking. Or is it as simple of a connector.

I'd all check the connections again. Maybe an obd scanner can help to dial the problem too.

I checked all my connections, they are all in place and nothing is disconnected. I’ve quadruple checked everything.

I’ve included a photo of the codes I am getting. I’m assuming I’m just gonna have to redo the job to properly seal the gaskets

reinstall the hpfp. make sure the cam lobe is all the way at the bottom. also replace the hpfp mounting bolts as those things snap if you reuse them more than 2x. make sure your fuel lines from the hpfp to the fuel rail and those which connect to the fuel injectors are tight.

Yup that is the step I forgot to do during the installation, is there a big chance my hpfp is now destroyed?

Take it out and see. that’s the only way instead of asking questions on the internet.

The car is literally telling you what’s wrong…
It can only be a loose connection on the fuel lines that you undid or the HPFP is f‘ed. I did the Valve cover a couple of months ago and just blindly fitted the hpfp, guess I was lucky.

Good luck and don’t overreact.

Hey please watch the fcpEuro video to properly get all the details for the install.

As far as I’m aware, there is a small cam roller with a tappet underneath the hpfp, as the cam rotates, the tappet moves up and down, you must lower the tappet into its lowest position by manually cranking the engine from the crank pulley nut to properly seat the hpfp before threading the bolts in, then evenly install the bolts to 12nm, don’t overtorque fuel lines.

Please be careful because FCP Euro brings it up, only very briefly during the install
