Hmm...not sure what else it could be. Another thing to try if you haven't already is rebooting the tablet.

2nd that. It could just be a bad device. The first K+Dcan cable I got from them was bad. And they were really good about sending another one immediately, which worked perfectly. --MW

Talking Flash Success

2018 BMW 440i xDrive
VRSF Catless Downpipe
MPPSK
Agency Power Cold Air Intake

Completed my initial flash today.

Flashed to Stage 2, 91 octane and Vmax, dcat, exhaust valves always open, burbles set at 7 aggressiveness, 3 sec, and 0 sec base. (I don't really understand what duration base means).

The entire flashing process was so easy, just connected my cable and there wasn't a single hiccup. I did not hook my car up to a charger during flashing.

The sport displays are reading correct at 460 hp & tq. I got a chassis stabilization code right as I pulled out of the parking lot but it went away after a minute. I allowed the car to warm up for 10 minutes then let it rip.

Coming from a Dinantronics Stage 1 there was a noticeable power difference but what I noticed the most was the smoothness.

I am seriously considering a trans flash. In the manual it says you can use the xHP Flashtool but I checked out the app and it only shows 35i cars. I know I can easily get the MP trans flash but I really don't want to spend $500 right now.

I will be posting timings later tonight from my Dragy.

Lastly, I highly recommend this tune!

Congrats! Interesting that your sport displays are reading correctly. I wonder if there is anything in the app I need to clear so the maps re-download when selecting stage1 or stage2.

It's $350 for xHP. It can easily be flashed the same way as MG Flasher.

I will hopefully be posting dragy times tomorrow. It's raining in LA right now.

Gap spark plugs

I learned how to gap my spark plugs. My 440 is coming up to 20,000 miles so I might as well replace the spark plugs.

Here are the options that I've found on BurgerTuning:
NGK 5992 1-Step Colder Spark Plug
or
NGK 97506 2-Step Colder Spark Plug

Which ones do you guys recommend and what should they be gapped at?

I will be definitely running Stage 3 when it comes out because I have MPPSK with VRSF Catless DP and AP Air intake.

Took the 340i in for the 8k service today, and my DME got updated as per SIB 12 01 19 (released January 2019). As Jarek said, there were no problems at all for the technician to perform the update with the DME unlocked by MG Flasher.

When trying to flash back to st2 afterwards, I did get the "software currently not supported" message. It says it will take 1-2 business days to update the database. I suppose I am the first to get this DME update with the MG Flasher. Can't wait to get st2 back soon lol! --MW

I went with the 5992 gapped at .022. Feels pretty good.

I had my stock plugs gapped to .022 - really amazed what a difference this made - didn't realize prior the gapping a plug could make such a noticeable difference (at least to me).

Do we have to be concerned about flash counters with transmission tunes? Haven't seen anything related to that in the "marketing" material.

If you flash your vehicle, you should just expect to throw away your warranty with BMW. My car is flashed, and I assume all the risks. I don't take off my DP and return the ECU to stock every time I need service.

That really wasn't my question. Was asking to understand if they do anything technically to mitigate that risk. I think at this point anyone that pulls the trigger to flash understands the warranty risk.

Those heat ranges are in reference to the N54, not the B58. In reality, our OEM plugs are already one step colder than the OEM N54 plugs, so they're apparently the same heat range as the NGK 5992. I started getting misfires ~ 26-27k (JB4 since 1200 miles) and replaced with OEM plugs (BMW #12120040551) at 28k. IIRC, they were pre-gapped @.027 and I just left them there. I'll see how they hold up when flashed, but I recommend the stock plugs for now. In the future, I'll change them in the 20-25k range.

With s good KDCan cable and the modified firmware flash times can be pretty quick on the MG1 as it supports compression.

Especially if you aren’t flashing a full ROM and just the CAL and patching the CVN/Checksums.
