Just checked and my VIN isn't affected, it says...

What would be the odds that, if my fuel pump went kaput, it wouldn't be covered?

I'd think nearly 100%

Looks mine isn't on the list either, atm. Wonder how they made that determination.

Got mine too. States they do not have the fuel pumps to replace them.

My VIN is still clear of any recalls according to BMWUSA's website. I'm really interested to find out if this really is a bad batch of pumps or what.

Best news!

This is the best news! My 2014 BMW 328d was out of commission for about 7 months while they replaced fuel pump after fuel pump. Fuel injector after fuel injector. Turned out it was the HPFP, it's just that the shards of metal were not detectible after it blew out the entire fuel system. $9,000 later I finally got it back in June of this year. I'm hoping BMW doesn't give me too many problems about reimbursement. I've never seen BMW techs so stumped.

Has anyone had any experience trying to get a repair replacement after a recall was issued?

I also had the CVJ joint go out on this one. It was right after they had issued the recall about 2 weeks prior. But letters hadn't gone out yet or anything. BMW was absolutely awesome in handling the situation in that case. So I'm hoping this will be the same.

I will say - definitely get that HPFP fixed. It was a mess to fix once it went out. And there are some good 1 micron external particulate fuel filters that exist now, that I HIGHLY recommend as well.

Would both of you mind sharing the following, to help maybe triangulate if it's just a bad batch of pumps (as Onizukachan suggested)?
  1. VIN - last 7 digits
  2. Build Location
  3. Build month/year

In one of the links, they had a breakout of cars affected:
328d Sedan, 2014-2018 - 2,773 affected
328d Wagon, 2014-2018 - 1,333
535d Sedan, 2014-2016 - 509
740Ld Sedan, 2015 - 13
X3 28d, 2015-2017 - 199
X5 35d, 2014-2018 - 6,389 (!)

Recalled Components: – part number – 4-cyl. (7810696), 6-cyl. (7283473)

Owners who have had this remedy performed at their own expense
prior to the recall notification may be eligible for reimbursement
according to BMW Group’s reimbursement plan in accordance with 49 CFR
573.13 and 49 CFR 577.11.

I had bought O2 sensors before I had the recall/extended warranty work done for the DEF pump issues. They replaced the O2 sensors along with the pump and other work at BMW's expense. I hadn't installed the new ones I had bought yet but I couldn't return them (a no-no on Amazon.com for electronic devices). So, if I keep the car long enough to need new O2 sensors, I've got 'em sitting on a shelf. I don't see my VIN number in the recalls yet (2015 model - built 11/14) and I would expect this vehicle will fit the criteria.

I will be very, very happy if they replace my HPFP under a recall or even an extended warranty. I've got 77K on my wagon and after all it's been through with the emissions system (and the guibo/transfer case issues) it would not surprise me if this went, too.

Dealer replaced HPFP

'17 328d, F31.

Dealer installed pump #13517824477.

Don't know if it is the same old pump spec as original, or if it is a new for low-sulfur-US-diesel design.

Using stanadyne lubricity anyway.

I wonder if I'd still be able to take advantage of this since my 328d is deleted and tuned and 151k miles. I've already replaced the pump once..

Edit: 2014 328d, I guess my vin isnt effected anyway, just checked on the website and it says 0 open recalls

Just got a notice that Remedy is Available for my VIN. Seems like an easy replacement, I honestly don't want to take it to the dealer, they will find a way to mess something up dramatically.

Wild - I thought they show still no remedy available. Do you have the letter or notice? Would love to see it!

So I contacted my BMW advisor. My 2014 has a extended warranty for the hpfp if in any case if it goes out. This should back us up until the recall is readily available.

The HPFP isn't simply waiting to go out, they are susceptible to contaminants. That's what this latest recall is focused on, one internal component that is getting an update, for cars that have the pump with that variant inside.

It's not a general HPFP recall. It's likely selected by serial numbers.

I got a message on my trip home to see family for Christmas that the remedy was available through my infotainment system. I need to make an appointment.
