320d remap advice - 1st time

Hi all,

I have a 75k miles, 2012 320d, I’m contemplating having a basic remap for a little added power - what are peoples thoughts on this? Car is in good shape & condition for its age and has been maintained well since I’ve had it (2.5 years).

I’ve had quotes from:
Celtic tuning for £295 (haven’t heard of them before but recommended by a friend, develop their own tunes on dyno then remote install). 230bhp & 346lb.ft

And a second quote from DMS of £594 which includes going to their Dyno. 242bhp & 328lb.ft

Appreciate any thoughts as haven’t remapped before, or if anyone has experience with either tuner. Cheers!

Tuning is a very strange world. One's tune can be drastically different than the other, even if they make the same power levels.

Peak power can be, maybe, 1/3rd of everything. There are ways to make 220hp very unsafe, while 250+hp can be safe on the same equipment, all depending how it was approached.

How the car drives is another factor to consider, but that is much harder to know without having previous experience with them.

Efficiency, longevity, and emissions are also factors that can be affected.

All tuners will claim "we tune safely", but if they override safety parameters (75%+ of them do!), then it isn't quite "safely". It's a recurring item again and again in tunes I've seen from all over for these engines.

I don't have experience with these tuners, but I do have years of heavy experience with the N47, the ECUs used, and the hardware limitations in these.
Don't let peak power be the only gauge.
