Fitted an M Performance kit on my F31 330d

So I kept myself occupied over the weekend by fitting an M Performance kit to my (new to me) F31 330d - I've only owned it three weeks so far.

You may have seen my previous posts as I was toying with the idea of buying a quality replica kit, but in the end I bottled it and went for genuine!!

Overall it probably took around seven hours of my time from start to finish, but I wasn't rushing anything and took it one step at a time methodically - I think the official instructions reckon you can do it in three hours, I'm not so sure!!

In summary:
Side decals x2
Side blades x2
Front Splitter
Rear Diffuser
Plus a set of Non-Genuine Front Grilles

Next step possibly the roof spoiler, but I'm pleased with the results so far.

Looks very good, black on white is always sharp

If you decide on the roof spoiler I have a genuine BMW unused one sitting in it's box that I would sell. Hasn't been painted so will match your kit.

The decals are probably the only bit where two pairs of hands are a good help for alignment,
I used the wet method to give a bit of manipulation - and found that leaving the skirts on the car gives a better visual of correctly positioning the decals.

Once you are happy with the positioning, as you pull away the transfer paper I found it was quite aggressive and would pull the vinyl away in places and leave the odd crinkle and bubble - but don't panic, a small plastic card squeegee corrects all of these to leave a perfect finish, I also went over the decal with a hairdryer afterwards to help speed up the drying process, as I found a couple of spots along the base where it wouldn't adhere to the curves due to being too wet. Patience is the key, I was a complete novice at it, but once you get the first side done, the second side will follow much more quickly!

How did you find fitting the front splitter. Tricky? any tips?
I have my splitter arriving tomorrow

I would have went with the side skirt decals only my car is black. The wouldn't have added much to the look

The Front Splitter wasn't too bad to be honest, I think the official instructions tell you to fit the carrier onto the bumper first and then affix the splitter, BUT I found it easier to mount the carrier into the splitter before mounting onto the car. I didn't use the Betalink adhesive, but bought some extra 3M adhesive tape and applied to the inside of the splitter instead - this means if I damage it in the future it is much easier to remove (personal preference really).

Another thing that made it easier for me (and a tip I found on this forum initially), was to not use the supplied plastic rivets, but I ordered some of these (official BMW Part Number : 51118174185) - I used these ones from ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/100x-BMW-...53.m2749.l2649

This means I can remove them with some needle nosed pliers in the future if needs be, and they are much easier to install by hand too (I also used these for the side blades) - they seemed to give a perfectly solid fixing too.

So in summary, insert the carrier into the splitter and affix with rivets and pre-installed tape. Add extra adhesive tape onto the splitter where you see fit. Remove existing rivets from front bumper. Offer up the splitter onto the bumper, once you are happy with the fit/position, peel off the adhesive tape backing, mount splitter into place - affix to bumper with new rivets and screw the centre of splitter into the bumper at central mounting point. I think that's about it off the top of my head.

Cheers
Joe

Thanks. I did think about painting the side sections but decided against it. Regardless of how well it was prepped and painted it world be so prone to stone chips being so close to the ground.
Hopefully more I don't forget the splitter is there when driving into a parking spot with a kerb

Personally I prefer the roof spoiler to the front splitter

The front splitter is a nice improvement but IMO the roof spoiler really finishes off the car

I think if ordering genuine parts most people including myself use Cotswold BMW (01242335365) as they give a forum discount, still expect to get screwed for what is at most sections of plastic but at least they fit.
You can go the replica route but you take your chance with fitment although I have just fitted the carbon fibre mirror covers from Autoid and they are a great fit and match up nicely with the genuine carbon fibre boot spoiler, a good price at £90 the pair.

I bought my splitter from here:

I'm happy with the fitment on my car. See the pic above.
