I did this year and it was fecking fantastic. Me and a few others convoyed over via Portsmouth-Cherbourg ferry and stayed over 4 nights in the Piston Heads camp site. Utterly epic weekend.

Most certainly going next year.

I go most years with a mate (Steve, you met him today) and others if they fancy it. Always a great atmosphere and the road trip is a big part of it.

This year we didn't get our act in order, and a few other things got in the way, but next year is very likely.

A Forum Le Mans group would be a blast.

Yes very much so. We were in Bleu Nord 1st Tickets/PH area and because its secure and has its own facilities, it made it a lot better due to not worrying about getting your kit ripped off (plus not having to queue for a shit and shower). For the extra cash, its well worth it for piece of mind as well as the crowd inside the wire.

Going this year was the first step to prompt me to get back in a petrol. Embarrassing when driving down the Mulsanne and the crowd ask you to rev and burnout. Impossible in a 435d xDrive!

We booked with SpeedChills last time : secure camping and parking, great food/bar marquee, and well organised. Next time we'd probably upgrade again and not bother with our own tents - pitching them in the pouring rain was a drag.

We've had lots of good times over the years : one of our guys doing 50 in a 911 GT3 inside the EuroTunnel carriage when loading, 185mph in a Ferrari 360 Modena with the roof down, 160mph in an Ultima toying with a guy in an Alfa 156 2.0i who was desperate to overtake, all manner of supercars backing up the traffic as they enter the tunnels en-route and then the noise as they give it the beans, watching the entire 24h race from every corner of the circuit.

It's a a race event like no other.

Finally!!

Someone else that likes LM - most other forum members don't seem to give a crap.

It's definitely worth doing and I've been for the last 6 year or so. Next year however may have have to be N24 only - did that and LM this year and much preferred the N24.

I missed meeting up with you this year (prob due to being shitfaced for most of it!). N24 certainly sounds like a great way to go too. How does the atmos and general feel compare to LM?

LM is very corporate, with huge hospitality, all sorts of displays and ticket/grandstand costs.

It's still a great event but N24 (plus the associated/feeder VLN series) is more raw and gets you closer to the action. The Germans are mad/friendly and take up camp a week before and build elaborate accommodation, with scaffolding, tree houses etc.

If I had to pick between the two, I'd choose N24 but if both are possible in one year, then do that, definitely

Definitely do a VLN race at some point before N24 to get a feel for the circuit, viewing points and how much walking to get to the really nice bits of the course and then come back for more VLN and then the 24 too.

I was discussing this with the guys I went to Silverstone with yesterday. N24 is a possibility, as is Spa.

Le Mans is still great but I've been going for 20 years and it would be good to see another big event.

Basically if it's a road trip to a different circuit and there's a strong team and driver line-up we'd be interested.

I did it few years ago. Our campsite (tents provided) was on the same site as the Danes. Had a brilliant weekend.

The Danes made us very welcome in their beer tent and bbq.

Did they have the mobile bar that year ? 40T rigid container articulated lorry; the entire length of one side opens to reveal a massive bar. Quite impressive !!

Just had a quick look at ticket prices and they seem very good. Ferry and campsite plus general entry £315 per person. Who are the best company to go with tickets wise?

LM or N24?

If LM I've always done my own thing but hear that Pistonheads and Travel Destinations are the best.

TD also does N24 although most people going do it their on their own
