Wow did Lexus really pay for that comparison video? They do have a point in that the BMW is over priced we all know this. But they left out so many points in the comparison that people should know. I.e., the torque difference in both cars, and the feel while driving. Here's what they failed to mention in that video.
LEXUS RC vs BMW 335i WEIGHT: 3748 curb vs 3595 HP: 306hp @ 6400rpm vs 300hp @ 5800 rpm TORQUE: 277tq @ 4800 rpm vs 300tq @ 1500 rpm 0-60: 5.8sec Vs 5.1sec (source Lexus and BMW we know magazines have timed the BMW much faster like car and driver at 5.6 vs 4.6.) 1/4 MILE: 14.0 @102 mi vs 13.3 @ 105 (source car and driver) 60-0: 126ft vs 124ft (source road and track) FUEL ECONOMY: 19/28 vs 22/32

Best part about this whole thing - Watch this on YouTube and read the comments.... Even the Lexus fans dismiss this commercial as a poor marketing decision reeking of desperation.

BMW needs to step up their game in some areas, but until Lexus gets some F/I engines, I can't consider them as much as I like some of the new designs.

Never had good experiences with touch-slide controls.
There's a difference between a physical knob and a digital "knob." The knobs on BMWs are nothing more than physical-feedback buttons that emulate the feel of spinning a knob. They were put there due to complaints of the previous-gen buttons. It's a lot easier for me to reach down and feel for the temperature knob, then spin it to the desired temperature. I agree with iDrive - it's stupid. Lexus jumped on the right patent pretty quickly. The interior comparison is a reach. I don't think I've ever stepped in a 3-series and thought "This feels like an X5." I have stepped in an X5 and thought, "Hey, I know exactly where everything is." The analog clock in the RC350 makes no sense in the sea of impressive technology, and hints at their traditional catering to old people. They neglected to mention that the 3-series is offered with a manual transmission, something that Lexus fails to offer. You pay for the drive in a BMW, and that's where competitors seem to keep failing to understand. That comes standard. Everything else is extra. There's a reason why the 3-series keeps beating competitors every year in its category. |

All that video did for me was make me like the 4 series even more.
The 4er will age much better than the Lexus, in 5-10 years that Lexus will look like it was from the 80's or 90's. |

Has anyone used the infotainment system in the lexus? Talk about distracted driving to the max. It's a convoluted system IMO, and has no place in a moving vehicle. Also, there is a reason certain manufacturers choose to stick with physical buttons over those touch sensitive jobs.

Lol wow!! Someone is trying a little to hard when they have to use items like rear cross traffic detection to prove there car to be better! No one needs that in the first place and if you do, you shouldn't be driving period!
At the end of the day these cars are realistically in two different markets and appeal to two very different customers. Lastly, I know looks are subjective, but my god that Lexus looks like a dead bloated fish!!

The video shows a compelling argument between the two cars. I saw both of them an auto show, the RC350F stood out miles apart. 435i mtech is just like any other BMW on the road.
If they offer that new 2.0T power unit, and knock down the price another 5-7k, they will have a real winner. |

Jalopnik had a good time making fun of this video.
They said it reeked of desperation. Jalopnik also pointed out even the 428i is faster 0-60 (5.7sec) than the pathetic RC350. Last edited by DieGrüneHölle; 01-09-2015 at 03:43 PM.. |

Definitely not a fan of the Lexus interior, it may have fancy looking touch options but it seems overdone, and the rest of the interior looks cheaply made. Also, we all know that BMW engines are under rated by the factory, example being the 2008 N54 which actually had 326hp and 332lbft at the crank and not 300. This was a nice video and all, and WAS informative, but with proper research there are faults in it.

335i and 435i will almost always prove to be a handful for the 350s in the real world.

Also remember maintenance isn't included in Lexus pricing. If I remember correctly 4yr 50k prepaid maintenance was another ~$1,800 for IS. I am sure the RC is similar pricing.

I am pretty sure this wasnt meant to be a "commercial" but more like internal training material. Every company has them. The shootouts vs the competition to give you a script to counter someone when they mention said competition. Hence her saying "lexes college". The difference is, BMW actually takes them on the track and real world driving. Of course, they are clearly biased, but gives good info with real numbers, including total cost of ownership. And they will even concede when MB or Audi have something positive to be said.

Ah. now I see that this was officially released to the public by Lexus. That is strange. It plays out just like our BMW training videos in its delivery. So i assume the laugh was my denial of being a "commercial."
