Cheapest way to hear B58 turbo

What options are there to be able to hear the turbo? Is an aftermarket intake the simplest way or is there something else?

The more of the exhaust components you remove, the more you will hear the turbo sounds. If you're referring to hearing it from the exhaust, that is.

Agency Power intake. By far the best mod to hear turbo noises imo.

Combine these 2 posts, and you got your answer

I just mean hearing it general from inside the car while driving. I do have a Dinan cat back and I think I can hear the turbo a little more but than before the exhaust but it's still very quiet. The turbos on my wife's stock GTI are louder lol. I don't want to do any more to the exhaust though (don't want to mess with cats/downpipes).

I'm sure this answer it out there but I haven't done any research on the forum for an intake because I wasn't really considering modding mine, but any issues I should be aware of with them or is it as simple as bolting on an hearing the turbo whistle? Any noticeable power gains without tuning (I just remember on naturally aspirated cars they don't do anything without a tune, but this is my first turbo car, is it a different story)?

some have issues with MAF codes. personally, I think an open air short ram sucking in underhood air is worse than one that is drawing relatively cooler ducted air through an enclosed plastic intake box, such as OEM or something from AFE Power. most get intakes primarily for it's sound. intakes are NOT great in terms of "bang for buck" but great "sound for buck"?

BMS is probably the cheapest open air short ram but i'd spend a little more for higher quality, on sale, shipped to your door, here...https://www.ctsturbo.com/product/cts...40-b58-intake/

I haven't had any issues with mine, and I drive my car like I stole it lol. I'm sure there's an increase in power, but nothing you'll notice. Really only good for hearing the turbo whistle.

I agree that it's stupid to be sucking in hot hair from the engine bay (bmw putting the intake right next to the turbo doesn't really help either), I was getting similar IATs with this intake as the stock box. I'm sure it's worse at low speeds, but once you get up to speed, pretty much identical from what I've seen. 100% only for sound

I have the VRSF catless dp and dinan midpipe with oem muffler on my b58 340 and the turbo spool is insane. You can hear it just driving slowly in a parking lot. I also just installed the agency power intake 2 days ago and it just made things even louder. Also, my car is not tuned. Stock in terms of the engine mods other than the intake.

With the B58's intercooler, I would assume it makes nominal difference in intake temps having an open intake.
