BMW knows best. BMW knows what you want.

This wasn't applicable on the F10M, since it shares both the headlights and taillights with the F10.

The real question is: Will the F80 and F82 get the F32 LCI headlights as part of that refresh? The E90M and E92M did not get the E92 LCI headlights, because BMW changed the bumper design to accommodate the updated shape of the headlights (and presumably didn't want to spend the money to update the bumper designs on the E9x LCI M3).

Will the F32 LCI headlights get a different shape? If so, that likely means that the F80 and F82 won't get an update. If the F32 LCI headlights stay the same shape, it's a safe bet to assume that the F82 LCI will get the new lights, but it'll be interesting to see if the F80 LCI does as well. It would mean a second LCI of sorts for the F80 in 2016.
True, but F30 vs F32 headlights are much more similar than the E90 vs E92 (IMO):

Note that's Xenon vs LED, so when they're both LED/Xenon, they'd look even more similar.

You do raise an interesting point though, that the F80 and F82 LCI may keep the F32/F82 Pre-LCI headlights, if BMW follows E90/E92 M3 tradition. I'd guess no, given the "L" shaped headlights seem to be BMW's next core design language, and shorting their flagship model wouldn't bode well for sales.

E9x M3 had to stick with "old" halogen angel eye headlights for 3 years while the LCI E92/E93 got upgraded LED angel eyes. I don't think it hurt M3 sales

So confusing. I think I got it right. Please correct me if I'm wrong because I'm frickin confused too. Tried to keep it together while posting.

I heard similar, all the runners better get ready to get piggybacks to m3 hp on plug and play chips

I am one of those new M3 owners and could care less about the full LED taillights, honestly these don't look all that great to me anyways. As for the CSL great car except for it's Achilles heel...that piece of shit SMGII transmission. What a mistake for them not to at least offer some with the 6MT.
Upon purchasing an M3 the last detail that would concern me is the freakin LED's!! Gee a real game breaker

Yup. See this thread.

Will the LCI M3 follow the F30?
Great thread!

So I guess I need to revisit things with my dealer. Granted LED's are not a big concern to me, however I have an odd feeling there may be a few extra colour choices. I have an SO on order but would love to get something closer to LSB instead.

It really wouldn't hurt all that much if I waited a few more months and see what BMW comes up with for the LCI.

In regards, to LCI...
The 3 series had huge changes that I agree where well worth waiting for, but the M was barely anything, $1000 for a new trunk lid, lights, and paint and you were set. F80 will like be the same story, nothing a little retrofitting can't do. I wouldn't wait another year+ for the LCI unless I was already planning to wait.
The Dinan tune gave me close to 420 ft-lbs of torque - far more than the F8x stock, so I'd have more than 20-30 feet. With the new downpipe, I will be getting an additional 20 hp, making the total output at close to 400hp, and 450-460 ft-lbs (some estimates put it close to 500 ft-lbs). I'd LUV to take on a stock M3/M4 - especially with my new suspension tune!

Call me crazy, but I think I like the existing lights better. The new lights transition from a evil look to a more elegant demeanor. I'll have to hold final judgement until I see the final product, but I'm not overly excited.

why the hell did they wait for the refresh to put in LED tails? Hasn't every other luxury automaker been doing this for years?

I'm loving the LCI updates so far. It's hardly a tough decision for me to wait. Plus BMW always finds a way to screw early adopters, so I'm sure the changes will be more than skin deep. Updated nav software, I drive controller, led lights, refreshed front lights and facia, new engines, new model designation, wider array of color choices ... Possibly some updated interior touches, including full leather dash. Did I miss anything?

Yeah, I'll be waiting. Heck, might settle for the 340i and forgo the M3, if the b58 output numbers are to be believed.

BMW has been notorious for this:

E46 Pre-LCI: Halogens
E46 LCI: LEDs (Coupe Only)

E90 Pre-LCI: Halogen
E90 LCI: LEDs

F30 Pre-LCI: Halogen
F30 LCI: LEDs

Annoying, but I actually don't mind the F30 Halogen tails. Not a huge fan of the non-LED's on the E46 and E90, though.

I think you hit the nail on the head. For me at least, one last factor will be the iDrive functionality and Car Play. I've always been underwhelmed with BMW's implementation of technology, and definitely the lacking standard technology. Needing to add in a package for Bluetooth streaming of music is pathetic.

Some of those features you mentioned can be had in the 2014/2015 models (leather dash, updated iDrive [NBT]), but the LCI is looking to enhance every aspect of the F30. Really hope they get some of the E90 driving dynamics back, maybe that'll toss it back onto C&D's top 10.

Yeah, tuned to stock comparo....that accomplishes a lot.

Oh, and 420 HP is not "far more" than an F8x, which is proven to be underrated. Good luck with that.

By the time you replace your suspension, add in all these tunes, and factor in potential long-term problems due to pushing your engine 100 over stock numbers, isn't it better to just buy an M3?

Thanks for posting that comparison shot. If the outline of the F30 and F32 headlight housings are exactly the same AND that outline doesn't change for either the F30 or F32 LCI (disregard anything BMW does to the way the lights look within the outline), then I think that: A) The F80 LCI will get the same updated headlights when the F30 LCI happens, and B) The F82 LCI will get updated headlights when the F32 LCI happens.

Many people go through life and philosophical inquiry will strike without warning; seemingly a common human phenomenon, especially when we are at a cross roads in life or we have experienced some kind of loss, the most reported are:

- what is the point of life?
- why are we here?
- does God exist?
- if a tree falls in the forest and no one is there does it make a sound?
- why do BMW put incandescent bulbs on a new version of a car that had LED bulbs previously?

If I'd have to worry about what the LCI would get, I'd never buy a car. As soon as the LCI is out, you'd wonder why you should buy the LCI and not wait out for the G-series 3 series.... oh wait... it never stops....

I don't quite buy that. Sure there will always be upgrades, but changing designations is not a normal upgrade, it's a MAJOR life cycle change.

Everything else aside, it will certainly affect the resale value of your out-dated car.

Don't compare this to any other LCI.

Is it just me or does this car look like it has the new fancy angel eyes but still halogen lights? Would be similar to the E90 LCI where the rings got standard (a weak version on halogen but still)

Would like it a lot, cause xenon and other stuff is very expensive here in Denmark and the leases here are therefore without it as standard (But LOVE the rings on a BMW)

I don't understand how it will affect the resale of pre-LCI cars any more than the normal variables that come into play, such as second-hand market demand, which I'm guessing won't change too much.

We're (as far as I know) talking about tweaked head/tail lamps and an evolutionary bump in power; it's not like the E9x change in engines to turbo.
