Blew Up B58

So last night I was doing a pull and car misfired and went into limp mode, friend radio'd to me that the car was billowing smoke. Pulled over and found a ton of oil all over the engine bay, in the intake system, etc. Cyl 5 is completely dead and it switches off fuel injection right after it starts, no matter if I clear the codes. We already swapped coil and plug and the problem persists on Cyl 5 which leads me to believe it has low compression, possibly a cracked piston.

Mods:

- Pure 800
- DE Stage 2 HPFP
- VRSF 4.5" Catless DP
- Remus Axleback
- Williams Performance Intake Pipe
- AFE Drop In Filter
- XHP Stage 3
- Custom E50 Tune By Wedge

No solid numbers, but John Albers made 580whp on his Pure800 on 21psi. I was pushing 25-29psi. So if I had to guess somewhere in the mid-high 600's.

Off-topic, but do you have a sound clip of your exhaust with the catless dp and remus axleback? I was looking at that setup. Really sorry to hear about the engine though, that really sucks.

Oh my.. Looks like a cracked ringland and that is at least. Oil is there due to extreme amount of blow by gasses entering the intake pipe from the upper PCV hose.

At those numbers, you need forged pistons. The sprayed oil is not a good sign.

Really sorry this happened to you. Now we know what the power limit is on the stock pistons, roughly. Hope you find a good used engine for cheap!

If it actually is only a ring it probably wouldn't be too bad of a rebuild. Get a scope in there to check the walls. I'm guessing the meth backfire that popped your intake manifold probably damaged a ring, then pushing it made it fully crack.

I would check eBay, saw a couple listed for around $4.5k shipped. Make sure you don't buy the B58TU.

Very sorry for you

I wanted to take a stage 3 on my B58 but not sure anymore...I do not think that 600hp is the limit of the pistons though. If we could see some data.
I was convincing my self to order the new VTT turbo that has just been relaesed but not doing that before that I get more exemples of stage 3 with stock engine on B58...For now, it will be DP and E30 mix...

Why don't you think that's the limit of the pistons? tyler.genter in doing his engine build noted that the pistons were the weak link in the bottom end. This further confirms that. If you want big power, you need upgraded forged pistons.
