New engine on the way
so around a year ago the engine on my 335i spun a bearing and the day has finally come that I have sourced a new engine and have a garage to do the swap. My question is going from a my 2014 n55 sport package to a 2013 N55 out of a m sport edition are there any swaps that I need to do in order for this to work properly. I know that the turbo will need to be swapped due to the the EWG vs PWG , but is there anything else? Thanks for the help

I wouldn't do it. The 2013 N55 runs the old rod bearings that are more prone to spinning. At some point in 2014, BMW started using the S55 rod bearing in the N55s.

i plan to put new bearings into the motor before it goes in anyway. It will be getting new bearings (most likely VAC coated), new gaskets, and other odds and ends. I just could not pass up and entire running motor for $500

In terms of your question, you might need to look into coding certain things like injectors, depending on differences between the engines. There may be some software changes needed in addition to any hardware swaps. |

I would source a 2014 or newer engine. I've read so many posts regarding random issues with model year 2013. Not to mention it has the smaller PWG turbo. If possible I'd look at the m235 engine or a m2(n55) engine.

Took the car in for an oil change and 2 days later noticed a little oil around the oil filter housing, wiped it down and carried on. Checked on it the next day and it was back so I took the car in to have the gasket replaced. Gasket was replaced and about a week later the engine seized on me driving home from work.

Yeah wow when this happened to me I also heard a lot of bearings failing after a OFHG replacement This is oddly strange it happens right after the replacement.

No it was an independent shop that did it. My closest BMW dealer is 2.5 hours away versus this shop being 3 blocks from my house. The owner also races Porsche cars and has built a couple 3 series track cars in the past. So I trust him with his work versus the other shops in my area.
