Yep... I'm having the same issue on my 2018 340i. I went in for an oil change and the dealer noticed smoke and oil coming from the exhaust. They said the valve cover and the oil separator needed to be changed. Total cost $2544. My car in bone stock at 55K miles. Maintenance is regularly done at the dealership. Luckily they are willing to cover the replacement parts and labor at goodwill. I still don't understand how something like this can happen. No tune no mods daily driven.. That's why I bought a PCV repair kit for $40 with a new cap/diaphragm/spring/plastic insert just in case this happens.

From eBay! There's some without the cap, but in case you destroy yours you don't have to worry cuz I've heard it's hard to take off.

3 months of ownership so far with my 2018 340i, no issues yet. Enjoying every moment However, I definitely need to get rid of the run flats and factory 0w20.

I've had my 2016 for 2 1/2 years so far and at 62,000 miles. It's had an AP intake and JB4 on map 3 (+6 psi) and running E20 for about a year now. I've had zero issues with this other than I added some coolant about a year ago. I used to have that well known mystery squeak on hard shifts when it's warm out. What doesn't make sense is since I've had my JB4 and it's making more power, I haven't heard that anymore. No clue on that one, I figured more power would make it worse.

2016 340i. Mods: Pure 800, catless downpipe, intake, XHP stage 3, custom tuned on E50
Around 63k miles currently and my daily driver. Was driving last weekend and did a couple pulls. On my second pull felt something a little rough at the end then got a drivetrain message. Right after my car kept vibrating badly when giving any throttle, came to a stop and the vibration became worse( so I pulled over at a parking lot, turned off the car and scanned with MHD, got codes about misfires in cylinder 3 and 5. Let it rest a bit and cleared the codes and luckily the issue did not occur again and was able to drive home. This was the first time I ever had a misfire. Upon some research seems like could be spark plugs or coil packs. Changed my spark plugs about 1-2k miles ago though but there was some oil on my spark plug 5 when changing so it could have got oil in there again. Also been having a decent oil leak somewhere, losing 1 quart every few weeks to a month. Hoping injectors didn't go bad, but won't be surprised if it is as I did have a very weird burning smell in the cabin a few hours before the pulls when going home. |

I've had the same issue on a 4th gear pull back in April. Cleared the codes and never had it since.
Was running MHD Stage 1 E30 map at the time, thought it might be down to only having 10 litres of fuel in the tank. What was your fuel level at the time?

Update: Car started vibrating upon putting in regular gas last night from the e50 blend and it wouldn't stop but when driving the vibration went away. Tuner believes it's one or two stuck open/closed injectors so going to have the shop check that out first.

Problem free until the stock turbo decided to let go at 63,xxx miles. I was on a custom F80 Paul E40 tune for the last 15k or so. Prior to that it was OTS E30 for around 8k, and about 5k on OTS Stg 2 93 for 5k. JB4 was on from 1,200 to around 35,000. Wanted to go Pure 800, but with the backorder/summer shutdown, that wasn’t gonna fly. Ordered a VTT and was only down for a few weeks. I was going to upgrade very soon anyway.

Update: Looks like I need a new engine. Compression was low by 20 and Pistons rings failed which caused oil to leak into my cylinder 3 and the wall was scored.
Debating of even engine swapping another Gen1 B58 as I wouldn't want something like this to happen again: |

But from the scoring lines that were seen my tuner believes it might have been caused from brief overheating causing friction from the piston ring which transferred to the pistons to possibly snap the piston ring land. Also I wouldn't count the injectors out as part of the reason due to all the injector failure symptoms I was getting as it seemed like my plugs and coils were fine upon inspection to my shop. I'll definitely keep that upgraded piston in mind! Never really considered it before to be honest but with this happening seems like it's fair game for anything to happen now. Also as a note, my car had been leaking for probably about almost a year now which Is when the piston ring land issue occurred I would assume. I was running my First Pure 800 92 time for about 6 months prior to the leak first occurring. Had about -4 to -7 corrections on WOT so maybe that played a factor driving for a period of time like that. |

F30 B58 Starting Issue
2016 BMW 340i RWD
Has anybody else had starting issues after driving in sport+ for an extended period of time? About a month ago, after turning off the car from a nice heavy drive under sport+, the car would struggle to start. It would crank but not turn over. I waited about one hour once for the car to be able to start. I tried pulling some codes and I only have a code for a minor leak in the EVAP system. Can this be causing the starting issue? -battery checked, running at 12.3V. It is a 5 year old battery now so will be replacing soon. -starter seems to be working fine -alternator is working as it shouldn’t as well. Voltage while driving is 14V plus Any ideas as to what might be causing this issue? Other than that the car drives like a beast. |
