435i Trunk spring issue?

Hi guys, bought a used 435i and just realized the trunk isn't opening all the way...it pops up half way and just bounces at the top, not enough strength to keep it up , but if i hold it open in the very top position it sometimes does stay up...is this something to do with the springs?

I tried adjusting my springs but i'm afraid to pull it out of position 2 and the spring will collapse and i won't be able to get it back...would make it easier if i remove the lining but i'm having trouble doing that...
This is the maximum it will stay up on it's own.

Also here is a video with the sound when manually moving it back up

If i quickly move it up and let go it will wobble back and forth into that same position while making some springy noises from the left side

Can anyone help? Thanks much.

It should stay up. The springs do need to be adjusted. Since you just got it, take it back to where you bought it and ask them to make the adjustment.

You don't need to remove the lining, just pull it down. Also, the springs are trivially easy to adjust. Pull out of the slot, and just pop right back in to the new one (just make sure you do both into the same slot.)

just tried it, it now stays up but opening is not very graceful, opens fast and hits the stoppers at the top quite fast...is there some kind of dampener?

This is a minor issue, might consider taking it somewhere to fix later if i can but right now i just wanna drive it

I would be a bit careful of having it hit the open stops very hard because of how close to the rear windshield the points at the front corners of the trunk lid come to the glass when the trunk is open all the way.

you could also adjust the little bump stop things on the edge of the trunk door... the less they protude the less forcefully the trunk 'pops' up

screw them more in for less pop and screw out making them 'longer' to make the trunk pop more~

if you screw them into too much then the trunk wont self-open when you hit the button on remote

If you can't get it dialed in...consider purchasing the F82 (M4) springs as the trunk lid is lighter than the 435i trunk lid. Spring weight will be a little more forgiving...

I'm going to try take it to a dealer next week, as it seems it's opening dangerously fast. I tried dialing the stoppers in but still opens too fast. (i move the trunk all the way to the bottom without actually closing the trunk and let go of my hand without the popping effect of the stoppers and it still hits the hinges hard) I think it is a problem with the dampening struts but that seems too difficult to fix for me

Your bump stops have nothing to do with spring rate (how quickly it opens)...your springs will. Have you tried adjusting your springs to the bottom hole?

that's how it was originally, if i do that though it wont stay open all the way at the top and it just slowly droops down... I also noticed some foam or something inside the springs, wonder if it's something wrong with those

Should be a free (warranteed) fix I'd think. With the GC, you can dial in how far you want the liftgate/hatch to open..1/2 way, 3/4, or all the way up.

just an update; got it fixed, something wrong with the trunk support. Gas strut may have leaked. Anyways, the booty is fine.

Don't second guess it. Let the service center take a look.
