best M wheels?
I want to upgrade my wheel setup right now from standard m-sport wheels to maybe the 666m style wheels. Although they are about $5-6k for a set, any similar wheels from other brands? Also, what's your favorite wheels to use on a f30?

What size are you going for? If 19's and sticking with OEM, i love the 437m wheels. If 18 I'd go with 513m.
Obviously others like BBS LM's, Ch-r, Volk Te37's look great as well. |

Attached Photos of my favorite 18" and 19" setups both with square 255 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. Note: that Apex 18x8.5 size doesn't exist yet but they are shipping a 18x9 ET30 that would work |

Agree on the 437M is looking to stay stock. My favorite after market wheels would be any wheels from Apex. My 340 is xdrive so i'm looking to stick to a squared 18 inch setup.

They've all been mentioned, but for me OEM it's 19s 763m (expensive unless knockoffs) or 437m, 18s 513m, or for aftermarket 18s Apex VS-5RS. I just mounted the Apex yesterday with 255/40s, square 18x9. IMO some 18s look a bit small while some 19s look a bit big, depends on the spoke style.

I'd like an ET35 offset, but if they make it ET40 then it can be used on 1&2 series cars, and F3x's like mine just need to use a 5mm spacer in front. Below are the desired specs: (See photo) Apex VS-5RS 18x8.5 ET35/ET40 Apex welcomes feedback so if they get enough emails from interested people, this size could be put into production. If you would like to express an interest, please email Tom Maloney at Apex at: groupbuys@apexraceparts.com |

For sure. I think 19 is a sweet spot in terms of looks. 18's are more functional and look that way. You really can't go wrong with oem+ wheels, bbs, apex etc. Wish there were more variety however, but we are limited to the constraints of the car.

I think Enkei makes great wheels, but they don't fit over the 370mm front brakes.
My personal preference for OEM wheels are 442m (bi-color/machined) for 19" and 400m for 18". Classy and understated 5 spoke design that matches the F30 body well. |

I think the 405M in 20"are super nice with just the right size - they are great on any F3X car - that's my cruiser

I have had both 405m and 437m on my F31 (both genuine sets).
Photos attached. So you can see a comparison of the 2 on the same car. The 437m's are what are currently on my car, and they are the black 437m variant with the smoked clear lacquer on the diamond cut surfaces. I had the 405m previously, and whilst I loved the look of them, UK roads are too pot hole ridden, and when you hit one you feared that you would buckle the wheel. So the 405m's only stayed on for 2 weeks! (This was even with adaptive dampers set to comfort, albeit with Pirelli run-flat tyres)- if you like 405m look and have good condition roads near you, 405m are wholly worth considering. 437m fill out the wheel arch more, as they are a wider rim section. I'm running 245 front, 265 rear with no rubbing on the 437m's. One other point is that 405m wheels can make the rear brake discs look a bit 'lost' due to the larger 20" wheel diameter. See close up photo. May just be me being fussy.

FYI- I found that when I ditched the hard side walled runflats, it took away about half of the harsh ride. It really softened the sharp edges of potholes and protected the wheels much better. Big ride comfort improvement even though I bought the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S for handling. I had two runflat tires damaged from potholes in the first year, but had no damages in the three years since switching to MPS4S and non-runflat winter Michelin X-Ice. |

Good to hear that the runflats appear to be the main issue with 405m. (I should disclose my 437ms are non-runflats). I was very close to buying some non-run flat tyres for the 405m's, but an opportunity presented itself to buy some 437m's from a local who was upgrading his M2 wheels for less than the cost of a set of Continental SportContact 7's for the 405m's. If I hadn't got such a deal on the 437m's, I would have stuck with the 405m's, as I did love the two tone colour.

I did upgrade the stock runflat 225/45-18 tires to 245/40-18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S for a huge handling and comfort improvement. I do enough driving on rough roads that I'm pretty much committed to 18" wheels to have the comfort of the taller sidewalls, as well as the wheel & tire protection they provide. My MPS4S are wearing to the point where I will need to either replace them with the same square 245/40-18 MPS4S, OR move to 255/40-18 MPS4S for slightly better handling and comfort. That would necessitate a wider 8.5"/9.0" wheel. A common aftermarket size is 18x9 ET30 but that might poke out of the fender well a little bit too much for my liking. A 18x8.5 ET35 or ET40 (with 5mm spacer) would probably be perfect but is more difficult to find. See photo of an awesome APEX wheel. They make it in the 18x9ET30 and are considering a 18x8.5ET40 size. |

The 437m's are 19x9 ET29 on the front (close to ET30). I'm currently on holiday and the cars in underground parking for the night, but tomorrow I could take a photo to show how much the tire protrudes. They do poke out a bit more than OEM wheels, but nothing outside the wheel arch (essentially finish flush with the wheel arch).

What size and model tire are you using? For quite a while I had my sights set on finding forged BMW 763M wheels in 19x9 ET29 and using them square all around with 255's. But I never found a good opportunity. Then my thoughts changed to staying with an 18" size and they don't make an 18" 763M. The APEX wheels are actually significantly lighter and less expensive.
