Just saying, it's not the correct context for the issue. Best thing, based on where the thread was going, would be to talk about the pro/con of each and if safety is a concern, focus on that. Hell, you could just put it in your signature lol. "Stock is the least dangerous"

Heres the ironic thing, I'm not going to be stock in a few days. Based on the facts Ghost provided in this thread, I'm going to try the JB+. However, I know the risks associated with modification. Yes, obviously stock is the safest.

A piggy back CAN be equally as safe as a flash tune. Many piggybacks on the market have provisions when detonation is detected to retard timing and richen fuel if detonation is detected. As whether or not a JB4 has this, I don’t know.
One thing I do notice about MOST piggybacks is they don’t have the same resolution as a reflash. As in, every input value is every 500 rpm increments vs. for example a stock DME will have 250 or 100 rpm increments which result in more resolution which creates a smoother tune because it’s more able to be fine tuned. |

Now that I have had my JB+ for a few months, it is time to resume modding. This week will bring an Injen intake and next week will be a 328i to 335i exhaust conversion with resonator delete. Time to uncork this stuffy system a bit.

Some good info OP
Anybody tried this on N55 xDrive? Any warranty issues if I remove before going in? I think for such numbers and it being a piggyback the dealer shouldn't be able to detect or suspect anything? |

In CA, they cannot void your warranty without first proving that it was the modified part that caused the damage/issue, otherwise the warranty coverage remains in effect. (My car is CPO and my warranty doesn't expire until 2021.) As far as removal prior to service, I did that the first few times, but gave up removing it and it has never been mentioned to me after numerous visits. If push comes to shove, they can always prove that you had a piggyback by reading the DME and seeing that the boost was higher than DME spec. Hope that answers your questions.

Saw this thread pushed back to the top and read through it again.
Having had the JB+ for two years I definitely enjoyed it and still think it is a hell of a value proposition (the best HP per dollar I've ever spent). Now I have Bootmod3 and I see why it costs 3x as much, but that's covered at length in many other threads by a lot of other folks. For anyone looking to get their hands on a used JB+, here is a link to my marketplace post. SOLD

First off, many thanks to N26Ghost for this thread, and bringing some real, scientific data to back a mod manufacturer's claims. Looks like JB+ could be a good buy based purely on the hp/$ benefit.
However, after reading this I have a question about JB+ and other boost controllers. From my understanding of current emissions control programming, etc. Engine ECUs in modern vehicles basically run the engine as lean as possible from the factory to reduce emissions for testing. If I am right on this, wouldn't just slapping a boost controller like a JB+ on to the car cause increased wear over time, or does the Engine ECU automatically increase fueling to balance? I'm debating grabbing one of these or holding out for the BM3 release for the B46. |

Thanks for the quick response! Looks like I'll just wait for BM3 B46 to release and go that route. Last thing I want to do is run the engine any leaner.

I think that's probably the right thing to do. BM3 for the B46 should be out soon, so hopefully you're not waiting all that long
