I would really love Russell to be the successor to Hamilton (especially as he is from my part of the world now), but I can't help thinking of him as a 'Jensen'; nice bloke and a good driver but just not got that extra 'bit'.

Come on Mercedes!
Looked like they had some decent race pace on Friday so might be an interesting battle with Ferrari tomorrow - RB for the win.

Hamilton still is still struggling somewhat in comparison to Russell. But I certainly don't think he is finished yet as the Hamilton haters like to point out. |

Interesting race today - Mercedes have made some progress and with the pace that Hamilton was showing at the end you wonder what he would have done without the puncture….
Monaco next week the most boring race of the year!

Yes, good job Bono told him to keep going - Hamilton sounded all ready to retire from the race after his early coming together with Magnussen!

Channel 4's highlights were terrible. Large chunks missed out without any update from the commentators, pit stops missed out completely. Difficult to know what was going on at times. Seems to be worse when there is only a few hours of editing time, as the C4 coverage is getting shown earlier (advertising led?).
They did a very good job of promoting Tom Cruise and his latest Top Gun film, though. Shameless, they are. On the up-side, George put in a solid shift (from what I could make out). |

Shame, because they used to be really good... Lewis was driver of the day for me and if he had not had the off could well have been on the podium... George did really well with what he had when the Red Bull was on similar tyres... Both Sergio and Max struggled to pass him... Both needed better tyres to do so... I hope this bodes well for three teams being properly in the mix moving forwards... Will make the races more interesting.... Although I still think Red Bull are on top right now...

ETA: Now raining a lot harder so arguably the race control approach has been vindicated - but second guessing the weather seems a strange policy to adopt! Last edited by JNW1; 05-29-2022 at 08:24 AM.. |

Awful race yesterday and was winding me up when the commentators were talking it up constantly near the end as as if it was some sort of classic. Good riddance to Monaco I say if its off the calendar next year. The cars are just to big now to overtake on such a narrow track. The DRS zone certainly doesn't work.

It would be a great shame to lose Monaco, even if the racing isn't the sharpest. It's an absolute classic and a huge piece of history. Plenty of Tilke-esque tracks I'd lose first. It's a shame history counts for so little amongst some people.

For Monaco to stay the track needs to change and evolve - the cars are much wider than the cars that started to race in the 50s - overtaking is nigh on impossible now.
They could still keep it on the calendar with the history but not in its current format.

I don't think Monaco will be off the list anytime soon.
F1 is, like most sports, all about the money these days. The marina was absolutely rammed with multi-million dollar yachts for starters; most there just for that weekend. The parking (or is it mooring) charges alone would eclipse the revenue from most GPs! |

Think we need to remember that F1 is multi-faceted now. Races are won and lost on strategy as well as race pace and overtaking these days, so Monaco is a perfect example to work your strategists fully.
Yes, it doesn't produce overtaking, but it's embedded in F1 and losing it would be wrong |

All teams know that overtaking is extremely difficult at Monaco and that strategy is paramount especially when the on-track situation changes. Yesterday's race was a good example. Red Bull double-pitted and got it right. Ferrari did the same and cocked it up. In terms of track position RB gained three, Ferrari lost three. It was Ferrari's race to lose, and that's exactly what they did. The track limits and the motorsport history at Monaco make it absolutely worth keeping in the schedule.
