Straight on at roundabout. Why indicate right?

This does my head in. People who move to the right hand lane. Indicate right. Then go straight on.

YOU ARE NOT GOING RIGHT FFS.

Am I right to vent?

you ought to try driving in Northern Ireland. Nobody indicates on roundabouts whatsoever, so you haven't a clue where anyone is going! If they do, you still have no idea which way they're going to go...

And anyone over the age of 60 doesn't know who they are supposed to give way to and plough on regardless.

As for newly qualified drivers... I was turning right on a mini roundabout and the kid who was approaching me on the main road, just kept coming - I abandoned my manoeuvre. He was displaying R plates (restricted for a year).

Yes, they should all be made to sit their test again

We have a new northern bypass in Norwich, and virtually nobody can work out how to use the 3 lane roundabouts on it! There is a massive facebook group constantly reporting things like this happening:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/2174...9916053621763/

He also posted the rear camera footage and the BMW was in that lane because someone also cut him up in the same way as the Focus cut this guy up!

Lane discipline on roundabouts is utterly crap or non existent.

It's scary how many people do not manage to navigate through roundabouts.

Admittedly some are over complicated.

My pet hate is people in the left lane who think their turn is straight ahead but the signs clearly indicate it is past 12 o clock and is therefore a right... They then go past 2 exits whilst hugging the left hand curb and go all the way round..

These really aren’t complicated though, there’s 3 lanes coming up to the roundabout and there’s 3 lanes on the roundabout so I just don’t understand why so many people cut across lanes like this!

Pisses me off but in Spain they’re allowed to do this, it’s a nightmare!

I see this most days and you just have to drive expecting it to happen. Doesn't still me giving a loud toot on the horn when folk do it though. You get dirty looks and you can see folk haven't got a clue, but they won't learn otherwise.

My best mate was knocked off his bike by someone doing exactly this. Thankfully he wasn't injured but it was hard work for him to get the insurance payout as a no fault claim.

Reminds me I ought to get a dashcam sorted for the new car.

Problem I seem to always get is when I'm already on the roundabout. No body wants to stop anymore and just pull right out as you are coming round.

Don't get me started on the idiots in the left lane who without warning want to go right. Right in front of you.

Last week a motorbike with pillion passenger suddenly decided in the inside lane to go right. Straight in front me. I was doing around 30-40. I would of killed him. No idea how I missed him and how the guy behind me missed me. Who would of got the blame? Me of course being in a car. Another reason I have my dashcam.

Hourly occurrence in Leeds and Bradford.
I drive my works van, have a dashcam, and I'm forever getting complaints about my driving to the office. I simply upload the footage to my phone, go to the office and show them I was in the correct lane and the other moron was in the wrong.

Now I simply make sure I'm right and drive as though there's no other cars around, if they wanna hit the van it's no biggy to me and they can try to argue with the insurance company when I supply the footage of their crap driving

Local to me we have the 'magic roundabout' in Hemel Hempstead. Some learners have had to set up camp in the middle as they can't get off it.

Yes. The best place to try this out is Place Charles de Gaulle which is the huge roundabout which surrounds the Arc de Triomphe with 12 exits. It takes a bit of nerve but you can sail straight out and the cars on the roundabout stop in a neat curve. Best done in a company car you don't give a shit about or a hire car with zero excess!

Incidentally you really should take the tour of the building which is a kind of museum - the way they portray the second world war and other great French victories is hilarious in the way it rewrites history. Kim Jong-un would be proud.

I do wonder how much SatNav is to blame for some of the poor lane choice, even when it is obvious from the road layouts, which lane should be selected.

I've noted on my SatNav that for a couple of local roundabouts the direction instructs to be in the wrong lane, for straight over and for turns. The road is specifically marked, the SatNav direction is wrong, following the SatNav would put drivers in the wrong lane and ready for annoying drivers in the correct lanes.

One roundabout directs to the left hand lane to go straight on, or to turn right. Road markings separate the two, left hand lane is for straight on only.

The other direction shows left hand lane for straight over, whereas the road is marked to filter off those turning left, the right hand lane is for straight ahead. Causes so many near misses. Whatever the cause, cars often merge side by side into one narrow exit path. Drivers in the correct lane often get the 'blast', as if they are the ones jumping in front.
