My car is in for the MPPSK and after someone mentioned EBT I've realised this may be the reason they are unable to do the programming they're attempting.

My issue is the car is not with me so I'm not sure if I've written the modified FA to the car. If I haven't, I believe I should simply read the FA off the car and then code the HU_NBT ecu to reset the VO coding I did for EBT. Is this right?

What would I do if I have written the modified FA to the car though?

If it’s because of this then their computer will be telling them that the phone cradle gubbings under the armrest needs to be fitted in order to continue.

If you’ve written the modified FA to the car then you need to write the original FA to it now.

They haven't told me anything about the car crying out for the cradle so not sure about that. They've even replaced the head unit as they suspected an issue with that.

How do I write the original FA to the car if I haven't saved it anywhere? I followed the guide that had the instructions to do the coding so I may have that saved somewhere but my question is, what do I do if it's not saved? Can I just change back to 6NS on the car FA to solve the problem? Or does it need more than this? All I've done is code EBT and some other FDL stuff.

Yea you just read the cars FA then change 6NS back to whatever it was originally and save it back to the car.

Or you can blag it out.

I had the same issue with a modified FA. The dealer just coded it back to factory. To be accurate they did say what the issue was but never asked if I either knew about it or had done it. I just kept my mouth shut

I think the bigger pictures is, the fitting of the MPPSK is business to them and they're not likely to turn away the fitting business just because "computer says no". Maybe a different story under a diagnostic scenario.

The thing is so far they've had the car three days and haven't been able to identify an issue. How long did your dealer take to identify that the problem was the coding?

I'm not too keen on waiting forever if they can't figure out what's wrong!

It suspect it depends on the level of knowledge in the dealership. My car had an issue with the ConnectedDrive unit and it ended up being the modem / commbox thing inside the head unit. They replaced it but couldn't code it to the car. They were fairly quick in pointing out the FA in the car didn't match what Germany had on record. The main tech dealing with the car was obviously very knowledgeable about the ins and outs of coding and had worked out what the score was but it would surprise me though that some dealers just plug the car into Germany and wait for the programmer that end to tell them if there was an issue.

I suspect they flash all the ECU's, for the time it took them to sort my car (over 8 hours) and it's a flash not just coding. I know they left my car over night doing it's update. That could add significant time to the diagnostic if they don't immediately suspect the FA is not correct.

Yeah it seems like this is not the case here. They've not been able to identify a problem and Germany are now having a look at it with no definitive timelines.

You will need to recode it.

No it won't have a combox. What feature(s) do you want to gain?

Only if car has a standalone Combox.

3AG Reverse camera not in FA

I had a reverse camera fitted, it works like an OEM but was a cheaper version with some sort of activation box.

Since then I've bought a a lead, downloaded esys, and managed to change a few settings.

I cant find 3AG in my FA so I guess the installer did it without writing modified FA to the car.

Where, (which modules) I can find the changes you would make to activate a non OEM camera?

I've ordered an chinaclone SLI and when I code that I may loose my reverse camera.
I'm happy to redo the changes I've made but I don't know what was done to enable the Reverse camera.
Any Ideas?

Or is there a way of enabling the Speed Limit Info (8TH) without having to overwrite my existing files with VO coding ?

Thanks

Anything that can be VO Coded can be FDL Coded, but it requires knowing all the necessary FDL Codes, and in many cases, they are unknown, and in case of SLI, it is far easier to VO Code.

OEM Backup Camera would be a TRSVC Module, but since you have non-OEM version, you do not have this ECU. I have no idea how non-OEM version is coded.

You could:

1) Backup all your CAFD files to a folder
2) VO code all the modules
3) Backup the modules again to another folder
4) Compare the backups using TokenMaster's NCD/CAFD tool

That way, you know what settings to put back, either when you do some coding or when the garage inevitably updates the software for some random reason when you take the car in.

Note, if the software does get updated, you have to make the changes to the new files and not just restore the old files.

I think you can do this just using the NCD/CAFD tool on its own. Just compare the NCD file taken from the car to the default CAFD file in Esys. You can do a side by side comparison.

I wouldn't do it to every module and I wouldn't VO code them all either. Most of them are nothing to do with the rear view camera.

The problem is the "default" settings depend upon the car build date and options present.

I agree not every module would need to be done, mine needed HU_NBT (HU_xxx ), TRSVC (if present), FEM (Front PDC), REM (Rear PDC) and ICM (for control and buttons) as they are the ones potentially with settings changed for the camera and control buttons.
