Question Will this tire setup work?

Hi all i have a 2016 435i RWD. It has the stock 704 M sport suspension and 19" M-sport wheels with runflats from the factory. currently on runflats 225/40R19 front & 255/35R19 rear.

i ordered the bolt on staggered Apex EC-7 set which is 19x8.5" ET35 in the front & 19x9.5" ET43 in the back.

Apex says i can reuse the existing tires on these wheels with a slight stretch because they're only 0.5" wider than the previous wheels - does that still work with these runflat tires? would it compromise the ride quality too much?

i am eventually planning to get PS4S in 235/40R19 front & 275/35-19 rear. is 275 ok in the rear or should i stick with 265? also, is it worth getting the life out of the existing tires, or should i just swap on the PS4S now?

I would get new tires and tpms for your new wheels and sell or store your 704m intact

For tire size combos, 235/40/19-265/35/19 OR 245/40/19-275/35/19

the wheels are looking really good - do you know of another one with 235/40R19 front & 275/35-19 for comparison since that's what apex recommends? https://www.apexraceparts.com/shop-b...l-package.html

i'm not quite sure how different the front wheel would look. also i won't need spacers right?

also, why do you suggest i sell the OEM wheels with the TPMS installed? btw they are 437m wheels, 704 m sport is the suspension name. is the TPMS something that should be replaced? i was going to just move them to the new wheels. also, do you know of an easy place to sell the OEM wheels? lol

you can do 235/40/19-275/35/19 if you want, however increasing the width difference between the front and rear tires will result in more understeer, if you care. a 30mm width difference between the front and rear tires is already a lot.

TPMS has batteries do not last forever and the tires and tpms on your car are already over 5 years old? it is why i recommend the swap to a completely fresh setup. cry once now and recoup some of the cost when you sell the 704M, which is easier to sell complete with tpms.

if you are planning to lower it, such as with eibach pro-kit springs and koni yellow dampers or KW coilovers, you can run M2 tire sizes, which are 245/35/19 front, 265/35/19 rear. this setup would have better turn in and is more balanced, overall.

otherwise, 235/40/19 & 265/35/19 is generally what i'd prefer on a typical 19" setup.

The 704m's are the wheels as is the 437m's. I suggest first make clear what wheels you actually have...

The new wheels with 19x8.5" ET35 in the front & 19x9.5" ET43 in the back are perfect fit and do not need any spacers. Btw, they 0.5" wider front and 1" wider rear compared to 704m.

I can only suggest to follow alohasurftoad's suggestions - do not re-use the current RFT tires and get the new ones; PS4S is a great choice. Also the wider tires would be very beneficial for you - wider fronts decrease the understeer and improve the steering feel, while wider rears provide more traction/better torque transfer to road.

sorry if i confused you guys - it has the 704 m sport suspension (slightly lower ride height) and came from the factory with the 19" staggered 442m wheels. not planning to lower it with the roads downtown Seattle lol.

Ah, clear. The 442m's are one of the heaviest wheels, the same is true for RFT tires. I bet you'll be very surprised how much better is the ride in every single aspect with lightweight Apex wheels and tires (PS4S are also one of the lightest high-performance tires).

Your wheels are of very usual parameters and you can find here a ton of pictures with similar wheels fitted with 235/265, and more than a few with 245/275. The 245/275 looks great from the rear, but the higher sidewalls make the rims visually smaller from the profile. They are slightly more comfortable and protect the rims better, but also slightly less sharp in turn-in, braking, and with higher rolling resistance.

hey J555 & alohasurftoad - the 245/275 would alter the speedometer more than 235/265 right? also, i read that the larger diameter would also affect the gearing of the car?

Yes, it gets closer to the real speed.

Yes, the same logic applied. However, I also have one set of wheels with 245/40/19 + 275/35/19 and my butt dyno doesn't recognize it on 40i Stage 1 at all.

Regardless of the engine, I always recognize the higher rolling resistance coming hand in hand with the wider tires.
