Received my order today.. install was a breeze and took less than 5 minutes.

It's basically a replacement control board with their own chip behind to accommodate the new wire, then you just need to piggyback the new cables into the iDrive and PDC controller wires (it comes with a bunch of Y split cables to do this).

Makes sense. Definitely the least complicated way. Curious how they soldered their cable to the replacement board. If you're handy with a soldering iron you could solder into the original and theoretically control anything you want with those buttons. Like a an electric cutout, meth kit, etc

You have to unplug the cable that goes into the main right handside controller, then plug that into the splitting cable. I presume they pick this up at the iDrive remote as the iDrive remote requires a Y cable to run from the PDC controller to the iDrive loom.. the extra signal must be bundled via that.

In theory yes, you would need to do a lot of customising to the provided wiring though as there's a little controller that sits on the loom between the iDrive wires and PDC controller wires.

I just ordered a set of 19mm versions of these (backlit)

I'm going to mount them below the airbag release holes, steal 12v power from the controller pins (for backlighting) and then wire them onto my valve remote's circuit, that way when I press the button it'll act just like the fob did.

Interesting, but the boy racer knockoff colored buttons have always been a non starter for me.

Messaged fortythirtyfive on FB. Said he is no longer making these kits. If someone out there has the skill to make the Sport mode M Button Retrofit for the F3x and F2x platforms. They would sell hundreds.

Yes I just made my account but I've been lurking on here and the F10 post for about a year now. That aside, I didn't think anyone else would actually try taking apart the wheel to map the blank buttons to anything.

I'm in the process of mapping those two blanks to a siren I'm wiring into my F10. I was cheap so I actually turned the blanks into movable buttons with an Xacto blade and file (and some white lithium grease).

Then attempted to solder my wiring to the board and interrupt the board traces to prevent communication with the iDrive and other ECUs. Although a sneeze botched that up and here I am stumbling onto this thread looking for a replacement board

This is actually pretty cool, I'm interested in seeing more, as well as figuring out where that guy actually got his boards since I need a new one. heh

I ordered it on 10/30 and it arrived to me 7 days later in the US. Kit looks just like fortythirtyfive's pics above. Instructions from seller leave little to be desired though. First disconnect the negative terminal from the battery before you begin. I removed the steering wheel and got the steering button circuit board and harness installed. I believe the question was asked if the M1/M2 buttons are backlit and I can confirm they are with the new circuit board but I must warn you that the red wire added to the circuit board should be handled with some care during reassembly of the switch. The rest was pretty much just piggy backing the cables with the plugins on the steering wheel. The pictures from fortythirtyfive's post were far more helpful than the very cryptic and brief instructions in Chinese ebay messaged to me by the seller. I will say that taking the drive mode switch assembly out was a bit tricky but there are 2 squeeze tabs on the front and rear of the assembly. I was able to sneak a finger in to press the front tab in and with a little gentle wiggling it came out in one piece. Here is the video that I found helpful getting the center console apart: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXrVcDCkbY0

Impressions: Quality of the kit was very good. Wasn't sure I'd like the red buttons but once installed I really like the look and the purpose they represent. The install was a little bit nerve racking but I took my time. Getting the connector out of the iDrive module required a little patience so not to break anything. Also getting the female + and - pins out of the OEM mode switch connector required some careful finessing too. Because the +/- wires with the OEM mode switch harness do not match up in color (mine were black and gray on my car and the piggy back harness was white and green) getting the orientation right was something I triple checked before committing to plugging them in. All in all it works perfectly and was well worth the effort IMHO and was probably one of my top 5 mods for this car!
