Silver lining seems to be that we haven't paid a penny for it and so have the freedom to go elsewhere.

Howdens are finalising a cost today and customer service has been second to none - should be delivered Monday for fitting.

We used Howdens last year for our new kitchen and they were spot on. There were a couple of minor issues and they were sorted promptly on the day they were spotted or the very next day. Really helpful from design to aftersales

That's the beauty of Howdens (despite their made up discounts). If something is missing or damaged its usually in stock and the fitter (who will of course have an account with them) can usually sort it pronto. Our Howdens kitchen however is on its last legs after 12 years.

Its just a damned shame their pricing structure isn't transparent. Unless you get an 70/ 80% discount you've been ripped off....apparently.

I've posted this before, but...IKEA.

11 years ago, as part of the 'big house project', we replaced the kitchen.

4.6x2.7x1.8m u-shaped layout including two full height fridge freezers, induction hob, double Belfast sink, microwave, extractor fan, all wall/ base units and worktops :

Magnet £12k
Howdens £11k - surprisingly expensive
IKEA £5k

We had one worktop cock-up from IKEA and during that time the screws for the sink wastes rusted through and needed to be replaced.

Oh, and one of the fridge freezers (Whirlpool) stopped working, most likely because the builders (always looking to do the least amount of work) didn't cut the vents in the rear of the FF cabinets which meant that the FF compressor was having to work overtime.

Always worth shopping around. IKEA Customer Services can sometimes blow a bit hot and cold, but the kitchen itself has proven to be outstanding value.

always a pleasant experience dealing with Howdens. They give us astronomical discounts and their quality is great.

We've had just under 20 kitchen supplied by them over the past 2 years, so that might be the reason for the discounts. My only recommendation is to get appliances from elsewhere.
