My driver window squeaks when the power window is being closed. The noise starts when the window is about 3-4 inches from reaching the top of the door frame, and it sounds like something is skidding.

Would spraying silicone lubricant along the bottom window trims help?

Not the window trim, roll the window down all the way and shove the straw into the channel the windows ride up and down in.

You should be using preservative treatment on all the rubber gaskets and seals on the doors, windows and trunk at least once a year.

My rubber door seals and window trims(and any plastic surface) are cleaned occasionally with vinylex. Will try spraying silicone down the window side and report back.

EDIT: Yes spraying with straw reaching into the channel works.

I use silicone spray. It will also increase the life of your silicone wipers.

Interestingly none of our other cars need this done(including previous bimmer and other german makes). The other 3 windows are still quiet as new, but if silicone spray can prolong window regulators then I will do it!

The noise returns this morning, it is not squeaking of window glass rubbing against the track and rubber trim, it sounds like mechanical "tick tick tick" sound of regulator mechanism or something from inside the door panel.

Next step probably is to figure out how to open up the door panel.

Check out this video, it's for a speaker install but demonstrates the panel removal.

remove the panel, insulation, and re-plug the window switch back in, operate the window while the panel is off and try to pin-point where the sound is coming from. Usually if the motor is still fine it probably just needs lubrication on the regulator/cable assembly.

Great video, thanks! The vapor barrier is glued on though and needs to be removed to access regulator. I don't have a heat gun to reattach the barrier so I will procrastinate for now.

To try something new, the window was lowered to 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, all the way down, then raised to 1/2, 1/4, 3/4 and all the way up, and silicone spray was applied liberally in each of those positions.

My reasoning is that this increases the odds of lubricant moving to the sticky part(s) in various extended/folded positions of the regulator.

So far this seems to work OK(no squeaks so far).

yeah you usually have to saturate it as the linings absorb some and also you want it to flow down to everything (and remove some debris) and not just stuck in the channel..
