M Sport Brakes - replacement pads and discs

Hi,

My 330D is showing that the breaks are due for a service in the next 3000 miles.

I have the larger M Sport blue callipers brake package on it.

Has anyone replaced the pads and discs at a dealer yet? Keen to understand the price so I know what to expect.

What size are these discs? Been trying to look at part website online but there seems to be varying sizes.

Any help would be awesome!

Thanks
MP

Garage List
How many miles have you done? I'd be surprised if you need discs as well...

Hi master plan. I too will be due discs and pads very soon. I called 2 local dealers who both quoted around the £900 mark. Not the news I was looking for really!!!

Same brakes as yours IE 330d - 370mm discs

Haven't done anything about it yet

Try getting a price for discs online and then a local Indy to fit.

I had a quote for fronts and rears from dealer at £1600! Independent quoted £1200. Still seems bloody expensive to me.

How much are m3 discs and pads out of interest?!

My car says that there is 3200 miles until Front brake service. However it has said this for the last 10,000 miles. Last time I had the wheels off it was quite clear that there was still considerable pad life and the discs were hardly worn at all.

The way the car counts down brake servicing is flawed in my view and leads to people getting the pads and especially discs changed far too early.

Personally I'd never get a main dealer to change them either, either do them yourself or get an independent to do them, both options should be much cheaper than a main dealer.

It can get the estimate wrong and sit at 3200ish for a while, then it will jump to about 1500 suddenly, which means the wear sensor has been triggered.

I checked that set of front disc and pads is about £390 on ebay, genuine BMW, so £900 for replacement both front and rear seems to be quite reasonable. But £1600??? That's a rip off

My car was saying it was also due new pads on the front, when it was in 2 weeks ago. So I asked the dealer to investigate and report, NOT to change.

They said lots of wear left, and reset the alert to another 20k on, and we'll see what they look like then.

Have you got a link to them please? I've never managed to find them on ebay UK.

I was going to ask the same, I have just hit 30k, can't believe the discs wear out so fast tbh, I need to start looking for pads and discs.

We should set up a thread for researching prices

Noticed this with mine as well. It has been saying 3200 miles to brake service for the last 2-3 months. The car has only done 24,000 miles so I hope it's something I can just keep ignoring for a good while yet.

My 330d ones were only half worn at 30k, are you sure yours need changing?

Did we ever get to the bottom of what the minimum pad and disc thickness should be?

I've bought a micrometer specifically to check mine - I'm convinced the dealer ripped me off last time!

Re the above - is 1500 miles to go the trigger that the sensor has been activated? That's probably the best measure I guess as that does relate to a specific depth of pad being left rather than the cars estimate.

I got one too to check mine, the minimum thickness on M Sport front discs is 28.4mm and after 1 set of pads mine were down to 29.2mm, so exactly half worn!

Thanks Tim - I'll check this afternoon!
