F Chassis N20 Flash Tune

Hello Everyone, this is my first ever post on this forum. I drive a '15 320i with ER catless and Awe mid pipe and quad exhaust with JB4.
From other posts, I could see that Active Autowerke and BootMod3 both offer OBDII Flash Tune, however, after reading it I still could not decide which route to go.
Will there be any difference if I do the OBD Flash instead of the bench flash, such as, the full features locked/unlocked?
And what are your opinions on both of the tune and which one would you buy?

Thanks in advance, all comments appreciated!

I believe in the terms of tunability, they are the same. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the only difference is that you can't clear a tamper code or something that indicates it's been tuned. Don't quote me on that.

We have a similar setup, minus the JB4, and I run BM3. I don't have experience with AA, but they seem great, too. BM3 has been great so far. Tons of extra power and you can choose from different tuners, not just the main tuner.

I see, Thank you so much BunkerJ, I think I'm going to give AA a chance and try it out. Did you upgrade anything in your fuel system to run E40? Also if you don't mind, could you educated me on your spark plug choice and why the 0.018" gap?

Yes. I replaced it with a Stage 2 LPFP from Fuel-It. Great place to get it from and you will get some money back if you send in your old pump!

The spark plugs are NGK Laser Iridium Plugs that are recommended when you go with a higher boost. You always want to go one to two steps "colder". The plugs will have better heat resistance/dissipation. As for the gap, that was also recommended to me by ProTuningFreaks (BM3 creators), again to help with boosting at 22psi.

I also run BM3 stage 2 at 22psi but with stock plugs. Should I replace it? Also the pump upgrade is only for running ethanol mix correct?

See what plugs you currently have and see if the serial on them is: SILZKBR8D8S. The "D" could be a C or E as well. If you have those, you're fine. Otherwise, I would recommend getting those and gapping at 0.018. What octane/ethanol do you run over there in Vietnam? I ask because here we have at least E10 in our gas, but require a stage 2 LPFP for any mix over E30. Long story short, yes, for ethanol mixtures. lol

Thanks bunker. It is very sad that we have RON92 and RON95 but actually that octane number have never come true lol. We have E5 recently in 2018 but I heard that the quality is still very bad so I havent try yet. Thats why I have to find a way to increase the octane quality. Halim from BM3 saw my log and said that either I have to run map with lower boost or improve the fuel quality or it will very bad for the car

How can I check the spark serial? On realoem?

Yeah, that will hurt for sure. Do you have access to E85 or anything like that? Octane booster can help raise it as well.

At this time the best option available is Active Autowerke with strong reliable off the shelf maps (no need for a custom tune) + all the necessary feautures (cold start delete, Burble sound, downpipe code delete, flash counter lock, etc..)

Agreed. If you're looking for OTS maps, go with AA. If you want a custom map from PTF or another tuner, go BM3.

Wow I bet your car is a blast to drive!! Nice work. I have been curious to know what modded 2 liter motors in the 328s dyno, I also feel that motor is a wolf in sheeps clothing when modded.

Mine ran 250hp/317tq in 100 degree Cali heat after 10 pulls. I'm guessing it has a bit more without the heat soak and triple digits but it's not tuned to the edges either....

Thats basically running only a few hp short of a stock 335i and your car is lighter as well. Impressive!! Imagine if you go FMIC and turbo upgrade she should easily do 300plus whp a 400hp car, lighter and more balanced than the 335i.

I was really impressed at how the 320i loaner car I had felt. It was stock obviously and not to much power however the way the car felt weight wise and suspension wise,I was able to imagine the potential of the 328 if it were fully modded power wise. Sheep in wolfs clothing, it would be a nice car to challenge a Audi S3

Oh, it is. It was already fun, to begin with, but the quickness and sound are pretty amazing for a 2 liter.

You should post some videos unless you already have

I only have the exhaust video up on the forums at this time, showing the sound/burbles. I'm going to the Euroklasse Fun Run this Sunday and will be bringing the Go-Pro with, so stay tuned!

BM3 is phenomenal. It's great for those who want a custom tune and squeeze everything they can out of their mods. I also really like that you can have different tuners and not just the creator. For example, I'm getting my E40 tune through ACF Performance in Brazil.

Yeah I see. My thinking was that whatever I do to my car I would just tell one tuner since AA makes some really fast cars already and has in the past. I can see pros and cons in both situations but I am sure they are both great tunes!

Thanks...I dont really feel it's a wolf..but I like that it's a 2.0L thats been dialed up a bit. I'd fully expect to get my ass handed to me if I toyed with a 335 (which I haven't). It's pulled away from a MBZ 320 and took out a C400 but I'm skeptical about the C400 just probably lifting. I need to take it to the track to wring it out rather than freeway onramps.
